Guy Garvey: From the Vaults - Sky Arts

Recommended Posts

Guy Garvey plunders the ITV vaults and discovers some gloriously rare music performances and interviews, most of them never seen before on TV. It's mana from heaven for music history nerds.

Loads of regional teen magazine shows with terrible names like What's On? and Check it Out! featuring classic live performances from Joy Division, The Clash, Kate Bush, Depeche Mode, The Police, Devo, the list goes on. It's great.

I've been watching for the last few weeks.

Highlight has been Dave Gahan examining how to pronounce Depeche Mode before the band perform See You to a bunch of ten year old kids on ITVs Razzmatazz.

Simple Minds playing New Gold Dream live on The Tube was great.

Yeah, I came across episode 5 completely by accident but then went back and then watched the rest on Now TV.

I'm going mad though, can't find the Devo bit anywhere now, lol. I watched 4 episodes in a row and they were definitely there, yellow jumpsuits and everything.

I'm in. I love DM's awkward teenage pre-Corbijn period.

What. The. Actual. Fuck. were Dave and Martin wearing in that interview with Paula Yates. Man at C&Atastic. Paula was a real treasure though, miss her loads.

Other highlights are Timmy Mallet on backing vox for Yazoo, Lemmy jumping on stage with Twisted Sister and Phil Lynot nearly throwing up.

Hope this runs and runs. If we could get the entire 70s and 80s that would be an incredible record of youth culture at the time. No 60s though so far which is curious.

@Hawklord it's on Now TV which has a 7 day free trial.

Cheers, turns out my wife had set up a series link on the Tivo. Got them all except the first one and that was available on Catch Up. Watched 1975, 77 & 79 last night (yeah, watching out of order lol). Love it when Sky Arts do a series like this. Some excellent footage
