The first one is by far the worst one

The first Parodius is a great little game, one of the reasons why I keep the Konami MSX Collection for the Saturn at hand.

Nobody will ever say the original Street Fighter is a great little game.

It might have been good in its day, but now it plays very slowly and just isn't any fun, in my opinion, anyway.

Far Cry. The first half was alright but the monsters in the second half were awful to fight against. Each Far Cry since has been way better in its own right, even if the series has stagnated a bit.

I don’t understand your post. The series started with Far Cry 2, the best one.

Assassin's Creed has to be a good one, then? The first was basically a tech demo.

The first one is way better than III.

Never heard that rhyme before?

Street Fighter, which has been mentioned is probably the ultimate example I can think of. SF1 may not even bother existing its been lost in obscurity.

I think you could probably say Tekken 1 too, because the games just got better as they moved on.

Virtua Fighter as well, come to think of it.

Nope. Third is canonically the golden eagle, isn’t it? Mind blown.

1st the worst

2nd the best

3rd the one with the hairy chest

(It's a childrens rhyme)

I love the purity of the original Burnout. None of the tracks were too long and it wasn't all about boost chaining.

Absolutely - I rate 1 and 2 as just about equal, but they're different games. And I prefer the first game, the racing, the tactical use of boost.

Yes fourth is the golden eagle (or maybe fifth?)

I've never heard it, and I'm really old.

Are you absolutely sure this wasn't invented by Jimmy Saville.

Kirby's Dream Land. Yes, it's the beginning of everything, loads of people played it and it has the iconic Green Greens theme... but the sequels did so much more. KDL1 is one of the few Kirby platformers where he doesn't have his signature copy ability, which immediately removes a lot of the appeal... and the game itself isn't really that complex compared to the others. 3 had Gooey and the animals, and even 2 had a primitive version of the copy ability.

I considered mentioning Rock Band because 2 and 3 just went above and beyond with the amount of extra content and new features, but that's still a good game in it's own right. :)

I always felt Kirby was some sort of demo to promote first party games, because you complete it quickly then pass it on to some other kid - who probably had a Game Boy anyway due to parental Christmas logic and Tetris mania, so it was down to the heavy lifting of shifting cartridges for an already established market. Exactly why you would even make another sequel to Kirby which didn't just show off good quality art, music, levels, enemies and tight controls eludes me somewhat, and I'd really like to see a romhack of KDL in which shit gets proper hard more like Super Mario World and the music is altered to be more heavymetal/grunge or whatever. Then maybe Kirby will be a real character (at least in my mind).

Right, so my contribution to this thread is... Elder Scroll Series? I tried playing Arena, but sparks didn't happen.

not if i could help it.

I have a vague memory of something about golden eagles. But the hairy chest does not ring a bell.

Saint's Row is another, the original is a barely competent GTA clone made just to plug that hole in the early Xbox 360 library.

The next 3 are completely different games which are all immeasurably superior.

It plays as slow as all the others do, until you use the speed boost pick ups.

I always felt there was literally no difference between Parodius, Gradius or Parodius Da other than the graphics.

Having a 7yr old is sometimes handy, so fresh from the playground it is

1st the worst

2nd the best

3rd the one with the hairy chest OR the golden eagle

The latter depends on who is third and whether you want them to have a good outcome or poor one.... apparently.
