Mile 22 (2018) Peter Berg and Marky Mark Round 4

Mile 22 (2018)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4560436/

An elite American intelligence officer, aided by a top-secret, tactical command unit, tries to smuggle a mysterious police officer with sensitive information out of the country.

Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg team up again for this action romp, after making three successful features together based on true stories, (Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon and Patriot's Day). I've enjoyed all three of those movies and think Berg is an extremely underrated action director, so very much looking forward to this.

That they've roped in Iko Uwais, (last seen kicking the fuck out of aliens with Frank Grillo in Beyond Skyline), and John Malkovich in an extremely ill-advised wig, is but the icing on the cake.

We'll say nothing about Ronda Rousey's acting chops.

UK release date is 10th August, one week after US release.

It really looks crap. I mean the trailer, at least IMO. Bit gutted about that!

And I loved Lone Survivor!

The intro was stellar and that Peter Gabriel version of Heroes was incredible!

Looks good to me proper R-rated action, always a thrill to watch Iko Uwais in anything and Marky Mark , Transformers aside is usually pretty solid.

Peter Berg also directed The Kingdom and the underrated The Rundown (aka Welcome to the Jungle). And Friday Night Lights, he then developed the TV show spin-off. I’m down for anything he makes*, and Mile 22 looks like a fast-paced, undemanding thriller.

*We’ll just politely forget Battleship.

I really didn't get along with The Kingdom back in the day unfortunately. Just didn't grab me despite the great intro.
