Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

Recommended Posts

The review embargo for this film lifts at 3pm on 24th April.

Apparently Disney is super conscious of spoilers leaking so they're employing their Star Wars strategy of not releasing anything until the absolute last second.

Why is Deathstroke in it?

That isnt Deathstroke.

Rumour is that Hawkeye will become Ronin in the movie, due to various photos showing him wearing a costume similar to the character.

I'll never get the Renner hate. SWAT, Angel and Wind River are just some of his good stuff. I think he's great and Hawkeye is pretty cool for a grounded superhero. Don't know anything about this Ronin persona though.

Who the hell is Ronin?

Undercover rogue Hawkeye basically. A bit like when Cap ditched the mantle and was Nomad for a bit.

It'll be a nudge and a wink for fans for a split second and that'll be it. Nobody gives a fuck about Hawkeye and there's enough stuffed into this movie without adding in more stuff that will mean nothing to 95% of the audience.

Fucksake. I've spent this whole branch of the discussion utterly confused as to how Hawkeye could become Ronin, thinking Ronin was Ronan.

It'll likely be just the costume, minus the mask, and that'll be it, but its another small nod to the comics nonetheless.

Near the end, Thanos will be like, “Where’s Hawkeye? I came to fight Hawkeye!” And then he goes home because Hawkeye never turned up. The End.

Joe Cunningham (of the Cinematic Universe podcast, which you should be listening to if you have any interest at all in the MCU or comic-based movies in general) is going to spend the weekend before Infinity War's release doing a marathon viewing of all 39 hours of the MCU films and one-shots.

And it's a sponsored movie marathon - he's set up a JustGiving page to raise money for Parkinson's UK:

A donation for a good cause (plus maybe some amusing tweets and a podcast coming out of it in the process)!

Hawkeye is the perfect character to kill off. He has no powers, he's not very important. It'll be like when they killed off agent coulson. The team can rally round like 'omg' now we have a reason to fight etc.

I'm pretty confident that this will end with Thanos actually killing off half of everything, including loads of established characters. Then the sequel will be something involving Carol Danvers picking up the pieces, rallying the survivors and trying to figure out how to kick the balls off a mad titan who has the Infinity Gauntlet. They can't call it "Age of Thanos" but maybe "Avengers: Two Hours of Thanos" or something.

The start of it will be like the first episode of Red Dwarf but "half of everybody's dead, Dave" to get people up to speed on who got the Transformers The Movie treatment..

Black Widow has no powers either and yet nobody wants to kill her off. That's a bit strange, wonder why?

Character development, established relationships with the other characters, not being played by Jeremy Renner?

It's not the lack of powers but the lack of character that makes Hawkeye an easy character to kill off, rather than Black Widow. Scarlett Witch is in the same boat as Hawkeye in that regard.

Also you could kill of Hawkeye and still have, like, 5 male main characters that have a decent character while if you kill off BW your left with Scarlett Widow or Pepper Potts. Who are shit.

The only semi intetesting relationship Hawkeye had was with BW so if you killed her off he would have nothing to do while she has an interesting dynamic with Tony Stark, Captain America and the Hulk.

But you know, it's probably feminism gone mad.

And that's why it's silly that everyone's first argument against Hawkeye is "he has no powers". Neither do some of the others, but they're interesting characters. The comics prove that Hawkeye can be an interesting character too, so his problem isn't "no power" as much as "no decent writing"

Hawkeye wasn't really interesting until Fractions run though (IMO) and that version wouldn't work in the MCU, maybe as a Netflix show.

I think mainly the latter. The guy is the visual equivalent of nails down a blackboard.

I think Iron Man is gonna die. Mainly because RDJ is on some crazy contract. Also he's pulling a Jesus crucifixion pose in the poster... he'll sacrifice himself to save others.
