Resident Evil 2 Remake!

Recommended Posts

Classic survival horror Resident Evil 2 is officially being remade, Capcom has announced.

While details on the project won't be revealed for some time, VideoGamer.com understands that the title will be a complete remake of the original game built for modern platforms.

The remake is being produced by Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, the producer behind this year's Resident Evil HD Remake.

"We're pleased to confirm that Resident Evil 2 has been approved for development," a Capcom representative said in a statement provided to VideoGamer.com today.

"As the title is only just starting its development cycle we unfortunately don't have any additional information or assets to share at this time. However, for now we want our fans to know that we appreciate all the feedback and support we've received on this title. We're looking forward to delivering this highly anticipated Resident Evil experience that fans have been waiting for."

Formats for the game have yet to be announced, but fans should probably expect it to hit PS4, Xbox One and PC. A release date has not been confirmed.

"It's been great to see so many positive comments from fans that have pushed the project to get approved," added Hirabayashi. "The team here at Capcom Japan really appreciates fans' passion and support and will do our best to bring fans what they really want."

When have Capcom ever put any effort into a remake or re-release?

REmake, Maverick Hunter X, Phoenix Wright Trilogy, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix?

Yes, this has been dying for a remake for years. Clearly the best RE game ever made.

I trust in Capcom not to Jeff this up, just give it the remake treatment ala RE1 and were there.

The one thing I would say is that they need to retain the original soundtrack. The music throughout the police station I still remember to this day, lots of dramatic piano!

Is the Resi remake on the PS4 considered any good? I bought it in a drunken moment and when I awoke found I had no motivation to play it, so there it lies...

Well, if you didn't play it on the GameCube, that is by far the best old style resi. I assume the new HD version is just fine.

I really hope capcom can do a 2 remake justice. I might start getting excited in 2 years or so...

I know I'm in the vast minority when I say this, but: I hope it'll be a RE4 kind of game.

yes they must reuse the exact same music on top of the new and improved visuals solely so people like you can have a little nostalgia buzz instead of a coherently remade experience

How would changing the music make it a better experience? It's not keeping the same character models when updating all the other textures, whereby it would just stand out as so obviously wrong. It's music over the top. I'm not really a massive RE fan and even I can remember the music from the police station.

Shame Hideki Kamiya isn't direct this. I think game remakes have the most going for them when it is the original director who is in charge (like Mikami with REmake). That said apparently Kamiya said recently that he would have no issue working with Capcom again, they should probably get on the phone with him.

Absolutely not, in no shape or form whatsoever should this play like RE4 or after. None. At all.

I'm not saying the music should be changed composition-wise, I'm just saying it should be re-recorded, remastered and/or remixed.

The game's a remake. The music should be remade as well.

It should play like RE4, have RE6's melee mechanics and up the enemy count to justify the better combat.
