Rocket League is getting ‘performance improvements’ on Switch today.

I haven’t experienced anything wrong with the performance, truth be told, but what bad has ever come from fixing something that wasn’t broken?

Oh cool. Yeah I haven’t had any problems with it at all. It has pretty much monopolised my gaming time since it was released.  Love it.

Switch Rocket League is my third version of it and by far my favourite (all play great, just I hate my xbox and PS4 nowadays) - other than a res bump the thing already runs at 60fps but good to see the Switch version get frequent care like the others do.

Nintendo could do with their own first-person shooter... Can't they buy the rights to Timesplitters or something?

Timesplitters SP was nearly entirely garbage, except for Timesplitters 2, which had one good single player level.

The MP was ace though, and the challenges.

The only real problems is the very aggressive dynamic resolution in portable mode. Can get pretty low res on some stages. Frame rate also sometimes wobbles a bit but nothing that impacts the game.

You're correct that it isn't up for discussion, because you're totally wrong and it's not worth discussing any further with someone who is so clearly, utterly, comprehensively incorrect.

TS2 was crap, as much as I wanted it to be Goldeneye 2. Used to bring it out at gaming parties, and it never sparked any enthusiasm, particularly compared to Mario Kart DD, Wario Ware, Monkeyball and F-Zero GX.

I remember rushing out and getting Timesplitters 2 after the positive review in Edge. Turned out to be another Turok 2 situation, unfortunately (as in a bizarrely favourable Edge review for a shit FPS with lots of obvious faults).

Oh wow. May 2018. Day one.

I bought Ultra like 3 week’s ago! Disappointed to say the least.

Then again, maybe this is ‘death by too much choice’ ? I’d love to play Alpha 2 again though, so many hours spent on the Saturn version, probably my favourite street fighter.

Is this a shoot ‘em up? These enthusiastic reports are hard to ignore, but I’m not a shooter guy.

My SFC30 Pro was delivered on the weekend but I haven’t been home to test it yet, opinion fourthcoming.

I bought Yooka-Laylee last night from the South African store (it was £27ish). I’m happy to say it continues the tradition of games just being better to play on the Switch, as I’m enjoying it so far - a lot more than I did on PS4. It just suits a handheld much better. I’m also very happy about the new ‘short speech’ option as the voices made me want to kill things.

I'll be interested to hear if you think it holds up as you get further in. I quite liked it at the beginning too but the levels get so sprawling and directionless I just started finding it a chore. It's incredible how compact and dense the levels in Odyssey are by comparison.

Yeah, this looks very interesting.

That said, I think I'll make it one of my very rare ipad game purchases as I think it'll suit the screen more and has the bonus of being less than half the price..

Yeah, I’m not expecting it to get anywhere near the dizzy heights of Super Mario Odyssey. I didn’t enjoy any of it on the PS4 though, but I’m finding it a lot more palatable on the smaller screen. Maybe the levels don’t seem as big on the handheld, or because I have the benefit of putting it into standby whenever I fancy.

Besides Project Octopath 2018 is looking like 'The Year of the Ports', for me at least.

Street Fighter, Bayonetta, rumours of Burnout Paradise. All good.

Sorry, Burnout Paradise? An EA game? One worth buying?

Nintendo Life are incredibly positive in their review.

All told, Yooka-Laylee is a worthy modern tribute to the collectathons of yore, and it is highly recommended for Switch owners. This feels like a game that belongs in 1996, but with all the quality improvements of a game made in 2017, making for an excellent blend of new and old. Though it can be a little uneven at times, the game as a whole manages to succesfully achieve its goals.

Do yourself a favour and give this one a go; it may not have been too well received to begin with, but Playtonic has polished it up quite nicely; it is a worthy addition to the Switch library.
