    Xbox One Console Thread

I was requested to add this Google spreadsheet for people to share their gamer tags: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EHykfNx3wKSen3j64cCP2Bgr9tusBPtPXkitPAPAMxM/edit?usp=sharing Fixing a 'Bricked' Console (Green boot up screen, then hangs at black) Your console is not bricked you are fine. No need for the USB recovery either - since the 1603 build you can self recover via this cool method Try this: Hold down the power button on the front of your Xbox One console until it fully powers down, unplug the power cord, and wait 30 seconds. Please note the console must be fully powered down; the next steps will not work if the console is powered on from connected standby. Plug the power cord back in. PRESS the POWER Button then Hold down the Bind button (located on the side of the console next to the USB port) and the Eject button (located on the front of the console next to the optical disc slot), continue holding down Bind and Eject until you hear a second “power up” chime. Then SELECT Reset this Xbox - This Troubleshooter takes the User to a page that allows them to select full reset or reset but keep content (this allows you to keep your installed games and settings!) Fez - Out now on XBLA

No thread for this then? I'm sure I was singing its praises on here when the first trailer/walkthrough came out, if my avatar wasn't enough. Maybe all the chat was resigned to the indie game thread or something... Anyway, the original trailer from GDC 2008 is here for those who haven't got a clue what it is yet. The new trailer shown at GDC this year can be found here. Apart from the actual game, I'm also looking forward to hearing more of their chiptune backing tracks... Can't wait.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II

Sonic 4: Episode II, part 2 of SEGA's reboot series. Looks substantially better than the original game, but could still be a heaping pile of crap, we shall see.
  4. Release date - 1st August 2012. Price - 1200 MS Points "The world has ended. There is no hope. No new beginning. Only the survivors. I can't wait for it! Looks set to be the best Summer of Arcade game this year (Apart from Dust maybe)

    Xbox LIVE Indie Games

Let's have a thread for these then. I get the feeling there are going to be more released than I can be bothered to wade through. I played a few of the first 20 last night and already there are more. Here's two I thought were worth some time Artoon - A bouncing ball, land on the squares and they change colour, Q*Bert style, change them all and get to the goal. Simple, fun and nicely presented. Music seemed alright too (techno). http://catalog.xna.com/en-US/GameDetails.a...eb95&type=2 Weapon of Choice - Contra style run n' gun affair with right analog firing and left analog moving. Jumping with the left trigger felt weird at first but I got used to it. Crazy guitar music and wacky graphics. Should be fun. http://catalog.xna.com/en-US/GameDetails.a...62a1&type=2 Full list of titles can be found here: http://catalog.xna.c...mescatalog.aspx Feel free to add your own reviews/comments.

Microsoft's new thing to try and combat PS+ does everyone know Fable III is free right now? Why didn't they bother to announce this?
  7. It's been revealed that Capcom are releasing a 'app' for XBLA/PSN that will allow people to download Capcom games. So essentially a dedicated Capcom version of Game Room. This is being done because of the company's 30th anniversary. It's early days for information but what we know: - It will focus on 80s games - Black Tiger will be the first game - Arcade versions (not the home ports) with the bugs left in (so basically rom dumps) - 1942, Commando, Gunsmoke and Trojan hinted but not announced - Games have lots of configuration options, not currently clear if these are just the original dip switches or more involved. App supports arcade sticks (I take this to mean optimised control layouts) and turbos. - Games should be 'really cheap' and may come as packs. - No release date yet but game line up will be announced Feb 7. They will also give us a schedule of when to expect each game. http://www.polygon.c...-game-ports-for Personally I think this is a great idea. It'll have a better focus than Game Room and although it's early days if the pricing is right I can see it being a good service. Hopefully the graphical options are good.

If anything it is nice to see the two mediums co-exist and not have one lag behind the other. I for one am keeping my eye on this. Perhaps the most significant change is at the top. Replacing the bumbling, android-esque Don Mattrick with the far more affable Phil Spencer, is being hailed by many across the industry as a sign that Microsoft is serious about getting gamers back on board, and at his first E3 as president of Xbox, Phil will be looking to make an impact. Xbox One already has a hugely promising set of games announced, including: Halo 5, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, Fable Legends and the enticing looking user generation tool, Project Spark. Now that the ID@Xbox program has had time to mature, expect Microsoft to make up ground amongst the indie community, by ensuring they get a good shot at the spotlight, likely in a similar fashion to Sony's Indie showcase last year. Microsoft have a lot of rumoured games in the pipeline too. The most prominent is the leaked Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which will feature HD remasters of Halo 1 - 4. With this and the inevitable Halo 5 showcase, expect E3 2014 to be a big deal for MS's 343 Industries. Another popular franchise heavily rumoured to be making a return to Xbox One, is Forza Horizon 2. The open world racer has been a strong fan favourite, and will be well positioned to go up against Sony's Drive Club this winter. We could also hear the first details about Black Tusks' Gears of War, even if it is just in the form of a CGI trailer, and similarly, Crackdown 3 may get an announcement trailer, although the game itself isn't rumoured to be arriving until 2016. Of the credible rumours floating around, this final one is probably the most interesting, and if true, will do much to sell me - and others I'm sure - an Xbox One. Project Nagano is the apparent codename for an Xbox One exclusive developed by action kings, Platinum Games. Of course Platinum have their good days and bad, but anything which smells even remotely like Bayonetta or Vanquish will almost certainly sell me an Xbox. On the services front, I imagine they'll talk about their next dashboard update, reveal more details about how Games With Gold is coming to Xbox One (cheers for the update Cosmic_Guru), and we'll hopefully get some insight into what their plans for Kinect are, now that they seriously need to incentivise people to buy it. More unlikely, is a reveal of their AR Fortaleza Glasses in response to Sony's Project Morpheus. It would seem like the wrong place to unveil the tech - if indeed they are still working on it - but who knows, it could be a way to give a game focussed show an injection of variety. Conference Review: In many respects, E3 was Phil Spencer's moment. After taking control of Xbox, Phil has had one message, Xbox is about games and this E3 was his time to prove it. One thing I think people forget about E3 2013, is that whilst policy announcements stole the show, MS were true to their word on making their E3 showcase all about games, arguably announcing a better set of exclusives than either Nintendo or Sony. They stuck to a similar strategy this year, and from the moment Phil took the stage, (but after offering a humble, almost contrite introduction to those watching) the game announcements just kept on coming, and didn't stop until the lights went down. Sticking with a long running tradition, the show opened with Call of Duty and was quickly followed by the unveil of the highly anticipated Forza Horizon 2. The show kept the pace up, with showcases for third party titles, Assassins Creed, Dragonage 3 and The Division, as well as some fun looking DLC for Dead Rising 3, which was announced as immediately available to download. The biggest third party reveal came in the form of Rise Of The Tomb Raider, which - awful name aside - has jumped to become one of my most anticipated titles for 2015. Sticking with 2014 though, and we were given a further look at E3 standout, Sunset Overdrive, along with create 'em up, Project Spark. The latter of which received a surprise outro from Conker. Although some bemoaned the implication that this meant MS was unlikely to deliver a full Conker title themselves any time soon. Unlike the previous year, Indie titles got a nice chunk of time. ID@Xbox head, Chris Charla was on hand to introduce a range of exciting titles, the highlights of which were Playdead's Limbo sequel, Inside and the gorgeous looking, Ori & The Blind Forest. Rounding out 2014's roster was the reveal of the - sadly - leaked title, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, a remastering of Halo 1 - 4, featuring all the campaigns and original multiplayer modes, remastered at 1080p and 60fps. The collection is going to be available this year and all for the price of a standard game. With the known quantities out of the way, MS went on to reveal an early look at a reboot to Phantom Dust (a game I'd have to confess to not being familiar with), and more excitingly, Scalebound, a large scale action game (with added dragons), from the masters of the genre, Platinum Games. The show closed out with the announcement of an Xbox favourite, Crackdown, helmed by original creator, Dave Jones, the game is said to be utilising the contentious cloud tech to bring added physics to some of the larger scale set pieces. Conspicuous by its absence was any mention of Kinect. Either as a utility or as a game input, a fact which more or less puts to bed any notion that it will be used as a serious control method for games going forward. So there you have it. Phil stayed true to his word that E3 was going to be all about the games, and games is what we got. With no time dedicated to anything else, the show did at times feel a little like an expanded shizzle reel, so whilst they arguably cut the fat, they also lacked a variety in their pacing. Sadly prior leaks took the edge off many of their surprise announcements, an over reliance on CGI trailers blunted some of the excitement of their reveals, and a lot of third party games were given time many had hoped would be dedicated to first party exclusives. All of which left me initially underwhelmed by MS's showing, but in putting these links and text together, it's impossible to deny that they came out swinging, and showed off a lot of strong content. They have a stronger 2014 lineup than either Sony or Nintendo and Sunset Overdrive could very well be game of the year material. I'll be keen to see where MS is after a year of Phil's leadership. 11. First screenshot released. It's an Xbox Live Arcade release that contains both a 'story' and 'arcade' mode. Although it's a downloadable title Remedy have said that it will be "structured like a full release" and "If you're thinking about this in terms of some kind of a, I don't know, super simplified 'we still use the name but changed everything about it' version of Alan Wake, let me just say that this is not the case. That's all I'm gonna say." Last we saw of Alan he was trapped in the darkness, but had just managed to reunite two warring aspects of his psyche, giving hope of escape. Night Springs was the name of the fake Twilight Zone style show that you could periodically watch in the original game. So is he still going to be stuck in crazy dreamland like the DLC episodes? He appears to have acquired a nail-gun. More details are going to be revealed at the Videogames Awards on 10th December.

    Guardians of Middle Earth

Now coming to Steam yusssss! http://www.cnbc.com/id/100965004 http://youtu.be/agb8HlwR3Fs This is still by miles my favourite MOBA, it's direct control rather than clicking and something that has absolutely dominated my playtime this year. Now, developers Monolith and Zombie Studios are looking to bring the Lord of the Rings themed game back to its roots: the mouse and keyboard. Now, GOME was simplified a bit when it came over to the controller set, and for good reason. Skills have larger areas of effect to allow for easier control with a twin-stick setup, the traditional in-game item shop was removed in favor of a loadout system, and a match timer was added to shorten games. The result is a much more accessible experience than its MOBA ilk like League of Legends or Dota 2, both of which have been dominating the PC scene for some time. The core gameplay from the console release hasn’t changed too much. You still have 36 Guardians to choose from (all the DLC packs are included with the PC edition), many of which were either in the Lord of the Rings trilogy or have since been seen in The Hobbit. Legolas is still there, as are Bilbo and Sauron himself. It’s still got two main maps in 1-lane and 3-lane arenas. Hell, it even supports Steam Big Picture mode and controllers, just in case you really dug playing that way. But that doesn’t mean GOME has made its way to Steam entirely unchanged. The biggest addition is the inclusion of exclusive alternate skins for each of the 36 Guardians, all of which can be purchased by way of the in-game store. The character skins join the three map skins available as DLC for the original version of the game, which change the look of the map to The Shire, Goblin-town, or Mirkwood. Survival mode, a wave-based game where teams of five do their best to try and survive the onslaught of wolves, goblins, and other Lord of the Rings creatures as they stream towards the team, also makes an appearance. First introduced as DLC for the console versions, Survival is a fun little distraction from the more serious modes, but it’s hard to imagine it being anything more than that. While technical issues were prevalent in the console versions of Guardians of Middle-earth, the PC edition seems to have solved several of those problems. My online demo experienced very little lag, and I wasn’t dropped from a match a single time. That would have been somewhat unheard of when the console review was written, so it was a welcome change of pace. Part of that comes with the help of Guardians of Middle-earth’s full Steamworks integration. With the help of Valve’s servers and software, the developer has smoothed out the matchmaking process, as well as added leaderboard support.
  13. There's nobody on my friends list playing this and it's a real shame. The few in the Live Arcade thread that have bought it are all loving it. Mechanically this is one of the finest stealth games yet. By sticking to two dimensions it avoids a lot of the pitfalls of many stealth games by giving you large amounts of information on screen without the need for a radar. It does this without ever being overwhelming, too. Sound is the most impressive aspect. I've never experienced a stealth game before where you could be confident of how much sound you could make without being detected. MotN uses visual indicators for each and every sound. In short, it is always clear why you have been detected and that is the game's greatest triumph. It is also great how the game encourages you to use these elements. You can consistently distract and lure guards and there are opportunities to mess with their minds, too. Tying a guard up on a pole can cause another to become consumed by fear and start firing his gun randomly, perhaps killing others. There is of course the option to play the whole game without killing guards so all of this is optional. I've not enjoyed a stealth game since Metal Gear Solid so this has been a very pleasant surprise. It's also very forgiving, without ever seeming too easy. Checkpoints are a few minutes at most and you can restart instantly without any punishment. It's stealth without the frustration. You will die very quickly if you mess up, but it's always your fault. Nearly always. The only negative I could level at it is the occasionally imprecise controls. 95% of the time you'll do exactly what you want to but occasionally you can drop behind an enemy, press X, and instead of performing an instant kill hit the other way or miss. This can be avoided by making sure you're facing the right way though and waiting a split second for the prompt. It could have been a little tighter in this respect, but the rest of the controls are generally spot on. I'd recommend everyone at least give the trial a go but I would also say that the game really comes into its own from the third or fourth level, when the modern day setting really takes hold. It's around that point where more mechanics are introduced, and the flow of gameplay is understood.
  14. Public service announcement, these games will be leaving XBLA and PSN soon, presumably the license is expiring. DLC content will leave the stores on the 17th (NA), 19th (EU) on PSN and the 26th for XBL. Announcement doesn't mention the date the games become unavailable. http://www.capcom-unity.com/combofiend/blog/2013/12/13/last-days-for-umvc3-and-mvc2-on-psnxbla-store If you already own the games, this shouldn't affect your ability to redownload them.

    Dust: An Elysian Tail

Release Date: August 15th 2012 Format: Xbox LIVE Arcade Price: 1,200 MS Points How many games with “Dust” in the title are there now? 72 Is this the best one? Yes Is it coming to Steam? “Dust: AET is exclusive to XBLA. There have been no discussions regarding any other platforms, so please don’t ask.” Is there a Facebook? Yep, here! And if it gets 10,000,000 likes by Wednesday, nothing in particular will happen. So, like, what the hell is Dust, anyway? Glad you asked… Think of a genre you like. That’s what Dust is! Okay, to be honest there isn’t much golf in Dust and I don’t think there are any dancing sections, but it’s basically a bunch of genres mashed together to make something entirely awesome. It’s a Metroidvania. There’s a world map and the game is split up into regions, but in each of them you’ll find areas you can’t access that you’ll need to come back to later with new skills or items. A map means you’ll always know where something hasn’t been discovered. It’s a 2D platformer. Pretty self-explanatory. One of the moves at your disposal is pressing down and jump to drop through a platform. This is my favourite thing in 2D platformers. You have a ton more moves at your disposal too and your repertoire grows as the game goes on. It’s a hack-and-slash type affair. X is your basic attack, and you can add Y for various combos. You can juggle enemies like this. B uses Fidget’s skill, and if you hold Y (Dust Storm) in conjunction with that they combine to form something quite special. It’s simple on the surface but add in blocking/parrying and it becomes incredibly deep. One of the achievements is for maintaining a 1,000 hit combo, and that should tell you all you need to know about the potential for awesome that the battle system has. It also has Popcap style rising music as your combo grows, which will make every part of your brain feel nice. It has item crafting. You’ll find blueprints all over, as well as tons of craftable materials. Want some better equipment? Make it yourself. There are also RPG elements, like levelling up and random battles. Okay, there are no random battles, but there is levelling up, and you get to increase your skills how you see fit. Want to do massive damage? Go for it! Want 5,000HP while you chip away at enemies a few points at a time? You can do that too. Want to be melee focussed or rely on ranged attacks? The choice is yours. This might not make sense, but I’m going with it anyway: you might have played games like Dust before, but you’ve never played a game like Dust. Take control of Dust, a warrior searching for his true purpose, as he joins forces with the mystical Blade of Ahrah and its guardian, Fidget, to save the world of Falana from an army unlike any before it! Explore an incredible hand-painted world! Match wits and weapons against challenging monsters! Take on side-quests from a cast of colorful, fully-voiced characters! Craft dozens of items and discover Falana's rarest treasures! Compete against your friends' high scores in ranked Challenge Arenas! These screens are precisely as ace as the game looks when you play it. Only instead, imagine the glorious animation at 60fps. It’s kind of beautiful. Those things are terrifying. Bleed, run and gun indie game

http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-gb/Product/Bleed/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258550c58 Bought this yesterday after playing the trial (which is level 1, as seen in the video above). I finished the game on Easy mode and thoroughly enjoyed it. Controls are excellent. Movement is on the left stick and firing on the right. The left trigger starts bullet-time and the right trigger is used for jumping, which seems strange at first, but you get used to it after a while. Your character can whizz around in the air with successive presses of the jump button in conjunction with the left stick. Once you get into it, you'll find yourself entering bullet-time, flying across the screen dodging incoming bullets, all while shooting your enemies in the face - it's really satisfying. I died quite a few times but you get infinite continues and the restart points are very fair. I can't think of anything I've played similar to it that is so well polished. Graphics are not amazing but decent enough for an indie title. The music is retro chiptune stuff. It's 240 points, rather than the magic 80, but I definitely got my moneys worth from it after just one playthrough. Recommended!

    ArcadeCraft

Not seen a topic on this, thought I would post my impressions since it has stolen a good few hours from me. Arcadecraft Xbox Live Indie 240points Fun little management game, think Theme Hospital in an Arcade. Quite limited in scope, you start with a $13,500,000 loan which has to be paid back in two years of the game (about an hour). The first time I played I was a bit reserved with my money and therefore didn't make much of a profit, was forced to sell all my machines and ended up with an empty room. Restarting, I went hell for leather to spend as much as I could and ended up doing so much better. Now it's 1983 and I have maxed out my arcade with 30 machines, trying to made the decision on which to sell and what to keep. For the price, it's quite fun. Basically becomes a rush around the machines, emptying coin drawers, fixing machine and tinkering with prices and difficulty settings. http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-GB/Product/Arcadecraft/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258550c9b

  22. http://marketplace.x...15-d8025841125d Had a good couple of hours fun with this today after trying the demo then buying the full game straight after. 800msp The lovely pixel art graphics are very similar to Scott Pilgrim but the action is much faster paced. Awesome chiptune soundtrack too. There was some sort of story but I don't know the original game this is a spin off from and didn't care for the anime drama, so ended up playing single player Arcade mode. There is also 1-4 player co-op and vs, local and online. Neogaf thread has all the basic info screenshots and videos you could possibly want. http://www.neogaf.co...ad.php?t=514402

    Xbox Live Freebies

I've just heard about a website that catalogues free stuff on Xbox. I thought about putting this in bargains but I thought it'd do well to get a big audience. http://www.xboxgamin...rketplace-free/ Is the URL, you can search, and set filters for your region. Rock Band Players would do well to check out the free songs from Rock Band Network. I just added a song for free by a band I didn't even realise were on RB. Here's a list of stuff that I've shamelessly copied from another site, beware some items aren't available in all regions. If this is old news, let me know and I'll delete!
  25. HYPE! I always hated that SoR II got the XBLA treatment, when the original SoR was by far my fav in the series. HOWEVER, now they've released all 3 in one nice big package, and it's been knocked down to 400 points in the sale. It's really nicely done, and has heaps of trials and challenges. Plus you can choose region and stuff and bind the controls whichever way you like. I give it 5 Gees! Anyone want to play online?
