    Aladdin - Live Action

Continuing their live action remakes of animated features, they've announced some main cast of Aladdin. Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine and Will Smith as the genie. Smith had been rumoured for the role. Guy Ritchie directing.
  2. http://deadline.com/2017/05/simon-pegg-nick-frost-stolen-picture-slaughterhouse-rulez-shaun-of-the-dead-hot-fuzz-1202094604/ Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have set up a new film and TV production company, Stolen Picture. Their first movie is comedy-horror Slaughterhouse Rulez. Set in an elite boarding school, with all the weird rules and stuff that come with it. But a fracking site in the school woodlands creates a sinkhole and an unspeakable horror is unleashed. Kids and staff must fight for their survival. I expect we'll see horrible posh boy get dispatched in a comedically horrible manner.
  3. David Chase has been persuaded to resurrect The Sopranos. But it'll be set in the 60s, around the time of the Newark Riots. It's written by Chase and Lawrence Konner. If they're revisiting it, I do like the idea of a completely different timeframe.

    Amazon Prime Video

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tech/news/a552739/lovefilm-instant-to-become-amazon-prime-instant-video.html I used to be with Lovefilm, but left when they stopped renting games. At the time their streaming video service was nice as an added bonus on the subscription, but not something I'd have paid for on its own due to a poor library and apps only available on a very limted number of devices with rubbish update support. Not sure if this will tempt me away from Netflix, their original programming (House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Arrested Development) blow away Amazon's rather uninspiring efforts in that area and without the introductory offer it's actually more expensive than Netflix (only by about £7 but still). The main argument for that price is the Amazon Prime delivery which i wouldn't particularly want. Still, more competition is good for us customers, not sure I'd want to be subscribed to two streaming services, but if they significantly improve their library I might take a look eventually.

    Stephen King's It - 2017

I think these have been on the cards for a while, but it looks like production is moving forward. While the 2 movie plan for It sounds pretty good, I'm not sure (despite the novel's length) that The Stand can sustain four movies. http://screenrant.com/stephen-king-it-movies-2015-2016-director/

    The New Mutants

Couldn't see a dedicated thread for this. Apologies if there is one.
  7. http://deadline.com/2016/01/masters-of-the-universe-mcg-sony-pictures-1201688130/ Sony want to do this and apparently have it in "high gear". Which I assume means they are pushing for it to come sooner rather than later. Oh yeah, McG may be directing, after doing a rewrite. Sorry.

    Saints Row

It's a videogame movie so it's bound to be great. F. Gary Gray is developing it and directing. It's being written by the guy writing reboots of Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil too. He's not written anything actually released yet.
  9. Edwards is out! But it's said to be amicable. He doesn't want a third blockbuster in a row and wants to do something smaller instead. Date has also been set for 22 March 2019. With Godzilla Vs Kong following 20 May 2020. They've also got the rights to Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah.
  10. http://www.slashfilm.com/dumbo-live-action-remake/ Tim Burton is doing a live-action Dumbo. Well, live-action plus CG. Contain your excitement, there's more. It “will add a unique family story that parallels Dumbo’s journey.” Sounds great. I've saved the best for last. It's written by Ehren Kruger, writer of The Brothers Grimm and Transformers 2, 3 and 4.
  11. I was never quite sure if this was actually going to be anything more than talk, but it's actually progressing. Obviously Jason Statham and Rock The Dwayne Johnson are in their established roles. Vanessa Kirby (The Crown, Mission Impossible Fallout) and Idris Elba have also joined. Don't know Kirby's role, but Elba is playing the villain. It'll be directed by David Leitch, of John Wick, Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2. Written by Chris Morgan, of Fast & Furious 3-9.

    Guava Island

This popped up on Amazon Prime over the weekend. Stars Donald Glover, Rihanna, Letitia Wright and Nonso Anozie. Directed by Hiro Murai. Not seen it yet but I've heard its good, certainly has some good names involved, and only 55 minutes. Apparently a musical of some sort.
  13. Despite the seemingly average-at-best reaction to the first, they're doing another. This time, they're getting Amy Jump to write it. https://deadline.com/2019/04/tomb-raider-sequel-mgm-warner-bros-amy-jump-write-script-1202594616/
  14. There was an old thread about a Tim Burton animated version, but this is not that. It's a CG animation from the directors of Sausage Party. If you're still here, they've lined up Oscar Isaac as Gomez, Charlize Theron as Morticia, Nick Kroll as Uncle Fester, Chloe Grace Moretz as Wednesday, Finn Wolfhard as Pugsley, Bette Midler as Grandmama and Allison Janney as their archnemesis Margaux Needler. Due on 11 October 2019.

    Grease

I'm watching this (again) with my daughter. She adores it. And I do too. We are both watching it and seeing completely different things, in the same way I watched it when I was her age. Her favourite character is Sandy (as was mine when I was little), but mine is now Rizzo. We have the subtitles on so we can sing along to the songs, and we are up and dancing... So, Grease, love it? Hate it? Secretly love it? Wish you were Danny Zuko?

    The Quarry

Michael Shannon and Shea Whigham back together again.
  17. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/zack-snyder-returns-movies-zombie-pic-army-dead-1178979 Netflix are letting Zack Snyder loose on Army of the Dead. He literally says "There are no handcuffs on me at all with this one". It's a heist movie set during a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas. A group of mercenaries are gathered to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted, inside the quarantined zone. Visionary.
  18. Jim Jarmusch is making a zombie comedy. Nothing really known about plot, but it stars Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Selena Gomez, Tilda Swinton, Steve Buscemi and Chloe Sevigny. It's already shooting.
  19. Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson are to play the men who killed Bonnie and Clyde, Texas Ranger Frank Hamer and ex-partner Maney Gault. It was originally in development at Universal long enough ago that Paul Newman and Robert Redford were to star. Netflix eventually got it from them and shooting has begun. It'll also feature Kathy Bates, John Carroll Lynch, Kim Dickens, Thomas Mann and William Sadler.
  20. http://deadline.com/2017/03/dwayne-johnson-skyscraper-summer-2018-1202044097/ The Rock plays a former FBI hostage rescue team leader and war veteran (big hero then) who now assesses skyscraper security. Exciting. But while in China, the world's tallest, and supposedly safest, skyscraper catches fire. And poor old Rock is being framed for it. But there's more! His family are trapped in it too! So he's on the run and has to save his family. At the same time. All while looking handsome and buff. Perhaps he will even find the time to bring some justice to the real culprit. It's down for release on 13 July 2018. Directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, who did Dodgeball and Central Intelligence.

    X-Men - Dark Phoenix

http://ew.com/movies/2017/04/22/dark-phoenix-confirmed-after-x-men-apocalypse/ Fox confirmed they're doing Dark Phoenix next. Due November 2, 2018, after New Mutants (April 13, 2018) and Deadpool 2 (June 1, 2018). Simon Kinberg is interested in directing.
  22. First feature film directed by Noah Hawley, of the Fargo and Legion TV shows. And it looks like it'll be as off kilter as those. It's about an astronaut who has a transcendent experience while in space and begins to lose touch with reality. Apparently loosely based on the real story of Lisa Marie Nowak, who had a breakdown after returning from space. She strapped on a diaper so she could drive non-stop from Houston to Orlando to try and kidnap a woman romantically involved with another astronaut. Stars Natalie Portman, Jon Hamm, Dan Stevens, Zazie Beetz, Nick Offerman, Tig Notaro, Ellen Burstyn, Pearl Amanda Dickson, Colman Domingo and Joe Williamson.

    Overlord

There has been a little bit mentioned about this in Cloverfield related threads. But, if JJ is to be believed, he's said at CinemaCon that this is not a Cloverfield movie. What it is, is an R-rated movie with paratroopers dropped behind enemy lines the day before D-Day and encountering the results of all sorts of Nazi experiments with the supernatural, genetic modifications and that sort of stuff. Some footage was shown and it was apparently gruesome. It's Bad Robot's first R-Rated movie. Abrams is producing rather than directing. An Aussie named Julius Avery is directing. 2014's Son of a Gun seems to be his only other feature length movie.
