  1. It's moving ahead, being written right now, and with Maverick back in full force, rather than the initial plan for him having a small role. It's going to explore how navy aviation is changing, with dogfighting all but gone and the rise of drones. Hopefully not a remake of Stealth. It's being written by Justin Marks, whose theatrical movie credits include Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and...that's it. He's got other stuff in pre-production, but what's released isn't a great record to judge him by. Given the videogame heavy nature of the forum, I'll just mention he's also going to potentially ruin Shadow of the Colossus and Dead Space.

    Ad Astra

Not a Vauxhall promotion, but a movie with Brad Pitt in space. Pitt is Roy McBride, who travels to the outer edge of the solar system to find his father and unravel a mystery that threatens life in the solar system. Also stars Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler, Jamie Kennedy and Donald Sutherland. Currently set for 20 September.
  3. https://deadline.com/2019/01/kevin-smith-jay-and-silent-bob-sequel-saban-films-1202541853/ Smiths movies seem to have been on a downward spiral, so I'm not sure this is wanted at all. In Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, they find out Hollywood is making a movie based on them and set out to stop it. In Jay & Silent Bob Reboot, they find out Hollywood is making a reboot of the movie based on them and set out to stop it. Starts shooting next month.
  4. Matthew Vaughn is directing a movie about the origins of Kingsman. Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Matthew Goode, Tom Hollander, Harris Dickinson, Daniel Brühl, Djimon Hounsou and Charles Dance star. Coming on 14 February.
  5. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tech/news/a552739/lovefilm-instant-to-become-amazon-prime-instant-video.html I used to be with Lovefilm, but left when they stopped renting games. At the time their streaming video service was nice as an added bonus on the subscription, but not something I'd have paid for on its own due to a poor library and apps only available on a very limted number of devices with rubbish update support. Not sure if this will tempt me away from Netflix, their original programming (House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Arrested Development) blow away Amazon's rather uninspiring efforts in that area and without the introductory offer it's actually more expensive than Netflix (only by about £7 but still). The main argument for that price is the Amazon Prime delivery which i wouldn't particularly want. Still, more competition is good for us customers, not sure I'd want to be subscribed to two streaming services, but if they significantly improve their library I might take a look eventually.
  6. Seems they are having another go at a theatrical movie version. Although they're giving it to Simon McQuoid, who doesn't appear to have directed anything or worked in any other movie role according to IMDB at least. But they have now cast Joe Taslim as Sub Zero. And they have promised it will be R-Rated and includes Fatalities.
  7. Paul Thomas Anderson directs and Thom Yorke scores a short musical film on Netflix. Apparently goes alongside Yorke's upcoming album of the same name. They say it's a "mind-bending visual piece, best played loud." Coming on 27 June.
  8. This is the Robert Downey Jr version of Holmes, in case anyone is getting confused with all the different versions. He and Jude Law are back. Dexter Fletcher is practically signed to direct. Chris Brancato, co-creator of Narcos, doing the screenplay. Currently set for 21 December 2021.

    Saw 9

I've not watched them since 3 or 4 but there's another coming next year, with a story by Chris Rock. It'll also star Chris Rock as a police detective investigating grizzly crimes and Samuel L Jackson as his father. Also Max Minghella as Rock's partner and Marisol Nichols as their boss, a police Captain.

  11. Rian Johnson writes and directs a whodunnit murder mystery with a bunch of people in a house where someone done a murder and everyone is a suspect. Stars Daniel Craig (DAT ACCENT), Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, Jaeden Martell and Christopher Plummer. Out 27 November US (apparently 29 in UK)
  12. A big bombastic America-Fuck-Yeah WWII film, by the looks of it. Buy a Midway and get a Pearl Harbour included. Supposedly a budget of $100m. Patrick Wilson, Woody Harrelson, Ed Skrein, Aaron Eckhart, Luke Evans, Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid, Nick Jonas, Luke Kleintank, Keean Johnson, Etsushi Toyokawa, Tadanobu Asano and Jun Kunimura.
  13. The gang are back, following on from Welcome to the Jungle. Danny DeVito and Danny Glover joining the cast. Same in-game cast, but they've mixed up their real-world players.
  14. They're bringing back Charlie's Angels again. Again. The new Angels are Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska. Elizabeth Banks is directing and also playing Bosley. She also co-wrote it with Jay Basu. They don't say it explicitly, but it sounds like it may be a continuation of sorts of the other movies, focusing on a different team, of which there are now apparently several worldwide.
  15. http://ew.com/movies/2017/04/22/dark-phoenix-confirmed-after-x-men-apocalypse/ Fox confirmed they're doing Dark Phoenix next. Due November 2, 2018, after New Mutants (April 13, 2018) and Deadpool 2 (June 1, 2018). Simon Kinberg is interested in directing.
  16. Looks like Marvel will explore more of the cosmic stuff in Phase 4. They've hired writers, Matthew and Ryan Firpo, to adapt the Eternals comic. Apparently, they're so hot right now.
  17. New Line are doing another reboot of Shaft. It'll be directed by Tim Story, of the 05 and 07 Fantastic Four movies and 3 Kevin Hart Ride along movies. It'll be written by Kenya Barris (Black-ish) and Alex Barnow (The Goldbergs). Story details are being kept under wraps, but word is it'll be about John Shaft's son.
  18. I was never quite sure if this was actually going to be anything more than talk, but it's actually progressing. Obviously Jason Statham and Rock The Dwayne Johnson are in their established roles. Vanessa Kirby (The Crown, Mission Impossible Fallout) and Idris Elba have also joined. Don't know Kirby's role, but Elba is playing the villain. It'll be directed by David Leitch, of John Wick, Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2. Written by Chris Morgan, of Fast & Furious 3-9.
  19. Legendary are going to make a movie based on Enola Holmes novels. Enola is Sherlock's and Mycroft's young sister. Millie Bobby Brown will play Enola and Helena Bonham Carter her mother. Henry Cavill will be Sherlock.
  20. Edwards is out! But it's said to be amicable. He doesn't want a third blockbuster in a row and wants to do something smaller instead. Date has also been set for 22 March 2019. With Godzilla Vs Kong following 20 May 2020. They've also got the rights to Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah.
  21. http://www.slashfilm.com/dumbo-live-action-remake/ Tim Burton is doing a live-action Dumbo. Well, live-action plus CG. Contain your excitement, there's more. It “will add a unique family story that parallels Dumbo’s journey.” Sounds great. I've saved the best for last. It's written by Ehren Kruger, writer of The Brothers Grimm and Transformers 2, 3 and 4.
  22. Universal has Ryan Gosling playing Neil Armstrong in a biopic based on the book "First Man: A Life Of Neil A. Armstrong". Gosling was first choice while the script was being written and they got their man. It's being directed by Damien Chazelle, who has directed Gosling in La La Land, which is apparently going down well. Script is by Josh Singer, who won an Oscar for Spotlight. The book it's based on focuses on Armstrong between 1961 and 1969, from Navy pilot to Apollo 11.

    Stuber

I thought there was a thread for this already but I can't find any mention of the name. It stars Kumail Nanjiani as Stu, an Uber driver (Stuber, geddit?), who picks up Vic, a cop played by Dave Bautista. Vic drags Stu into all sorts of comedy danger while on the trail of a killer. Also features Iko Uwais, Natalie Morales, Betty Gilpin, Jimmy Tatro, Mira Sorvino and Karen Gillan. Not sure it's going to be great, but maybe amusing. Red band trailer
  24. BBC and Mackenzie Crook are making two hour-long Worzel movies for broadcast around Christmas. Crook is writing, directing and starring. Apparently many of The Detectorists team are involved.
