  1. The switch thread is a bit of a mega-thread so seeing if we can carve the eShop part of it into its own chat - not going to create a new thread every week but hopefully this will move some of the traffic out the mega-thread. Can I buy from a browser from the eShop ? You need to access the eShop at least once from your Switch before you can buy online. Once you've done that though, yes you can buy online and it'll download automatically. http://www.nintendo.co.uk/Nintendo-Switch/Games/Games-1178441.html eShop Price Comparison www.eshop-prices.com/?currency=GBP How To Access Foreign eShops Specifically looking to set up a Japanese account? Eurogamer have a handy guide here, though the same method applies for all regions. I’m based in Europe… can I log onto overseas eShops? 1) Use a browser to go to accounts.nintendo.com 2) Create a new account 3) Set your region to the one you want, e.g. Japan. NOTE: This can be changed at any time 4) On the Switch, go to SYSTEM SETTINGS > USER > ADD NEW USER. 5) Set icon and nickname (anything memorable will do, but you might want to add ‘JPN’ to the end of the nickname for easy reference) 6) Link this to the account you created in step 2 You can either repeat this step for different territories OR simply use your second account as a floating region, remembering to change the region at accounts.nintendo.com and re-entering your password to agree to the country's specific EULA. NOTE: Any eShop funds you have tied to a specific store (e.g. Japan) will be erased if you switch the account region. ____________ How do I log on to an overseas eshop? Simple: click/press on the eShop icon, then choose the account you want to log in with. Do I have to swap accounts to play overseas games? NO (yippee!). All games show against all accounts Will Japanese/overseas language games show in my local language when I use my local account? Not so far. Game languages support is always on the 'disk' Can I use my credit card to buy from all European countries? Yes. This includes Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Russia, so be sure to check their prices. Can I use my credit card to buy from the US and Japan (and other international stores) ? Unfortunately, no (unless you happen to have a card from that territory). You will have to buy eShop cards from places such eBay, Japan Code Supply or Play-Asia, etc. or use an alternative method (Sorry, no PayPal either). Stocking up with eShop funds has it's disadvantages, however as they can not only be expensive, but should you change your region, any remaining credit will be erased. This goes for changing your main account, too, so please be careful to only top up with the correct amount or as close to that as possible.
  2. Since we are getting it after all, I figured a thread was in order Azure Striker Gunvolt (also known as Armed Blue Gunvolt in Japan) is a platform action-game released by Inti Creates for the Nintendo 3DS eShop. It's gameplay is similar to Mega Man Zero (made by the same publisher), but introduced new gameplay elements to the Mega Man style of game such as Gunvolt's ability to "tag" enemies and target multiple targets at once, adding an additional layer of complexity to the genre. Like Mega Man, Azure Striker Gunvolt is a side-scrolling platform game. The player controls a single character (the eponymous Gunvolt) who is able to jump, fire a gun, and attack enemies "tagged" with bullets using a large, homing electrical field. The player's actions are limited by an energy bar, which depletes when using the electrical field, using additional movement abilities such as double-jumping or air dashing, or being hit by enemies. Gameplay focuses heavily on the player's technique and skill in moving through levels. While finishing a level is relatively easy, the game provides a ranking system as well as several optional challenges. The game introduces a "chain" system in which the player's score is constantly increased so long as the player avoids being hit by enemies, with special actions such as defeating an enemy in the air or defeating multiple enemies in one time, providing an additional bonus. The game also uses an item-forging and equipping system. Storywise, Azure Striker Gunvolt is set in the future in which several people, called "adepts" have developed "septimal powers".These powers enable superhuman feats including flight, use of powerful energy weapons, and manipulation of the elements (e.g. fire, water, electricity). The world is at peace thanks to the efforts of a world-spanning corporation known as the Sumeragi Group. However, the Sumeragi Group is, in reality, controlling and experimenting on adepts. Gunvolt, one of the most powerful adepts, with the ability to create electrical fields, works for a resistance organization known as QUILL. The game opens with Gunvolt assigned on a mission to assassinate an adept named Lumen. However, Gunvolt discovers that Lumen is housed within the body of a young girl named Joule and instead rescues her, defecting from QUILL and setting out on his own to protect her. Trailers: Gameplay mechanics explanation: Looks SNES-tastic! >> Official website: >> http://gunvolt.com/en/ Date of release? Somewhere in 2015...

    Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash

Announced earlier today in Nintendo Direct was Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash ( or Guru-Guru! Chibi-Robo! as it is known in Japan), a new entry in the rarely-revisited series. Unlike previous games, Chibi-Robo is now the star of a pint-sized platformer and can use his cable to whip enemies, break blocks and grapple walls throughout the different side-scrolling stages. Despite the genre switch, Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash still features elements from previous entries in the series like Chibi-Robo’s constantly draining energy. The game will also release alongside a Chibi-Robo amiibo (!!). Points earned by clearing courses will level up the amiibo, granting players collectible items. Touching the amiibo during gameplay will also transform the tiny hero into Super Chibi-Robo, a more powerful version with a fancy golden paint-job. Assistant producer Risa Tabata on how development first started: Both the game and amiibo will be released in Japan this Summer. It's good to see that -despite the rather limited interest in the series- Skip ltd. still hasn't given up on what must be one of gaming's most adorable characters. Can't wait for the European eShop release. Which will come *stares hard at NoE* Well, the fact that's it's being graced with its very own amiibo should mean that an international relase is probably on the cards. If the 3DS hasn't been abandonned too much in the West by then. Teaser trailer: Nintendo Direct footage:
  4. The latest Ace Attorney spin-off game, The Great Ace Attorney (Dai Gyakuten Saiban) was just recently released in Japan. But it seems like Capcom aren’t resting on their laurels yet – in fact, the next mainline Ace Attorney game has just been announced! Famitsu revealed that the title will even be playable at Tokyo Game Show later this month (!!). According to the magazine, the game takes place outside of Japan. Phoenix Wright has come to an as yet unnamed country (probably Nepal) for a reason, but he gets involved with another case. Residents of the country apparently believe in the spirits of the dead. A big Water Mirror (mizukagami) can be seen in their courtrooms on the floor. On the upper 3DS screen, there are images and words floating in the water. The touch screen seems to show part of a testimony and the option to present something. Famitsu also introduces us to a boy who goes by the name (roughly) Bokto Tsuani. Bokto is a monk-in-training who works as a tour guide to make some money. It’s said that after starting his tour-guide-talk, he can’t be stopped. It’s again a 3DS exclusive. And the game is supposedly spearheaded by producers Motohide Eshiro and Takeshi Yamazaki, both of them series veterans. More info soon.

    BoxBoy! + BoxBoxBoy! + Bye-Bye BoxBoy!

This one got a bit lost amidst all the Nintendo Direct news from last week... A black and white puzzle platformer, with a simple but bold presentation and with a very strong core mechanic: you create boxes in different directions from your, well... box-shaped-hero (Hakoboi actually means litt. ''Box Boy''), to interact with the world and solve puzzles. And you jump. And that's it. It looks so simple at first, and it's the classic game that's difficult to explain by words as is easy to grasps while watching the trailer or, better, playing it. By the end of the video this core mechanic gets applied in some astounding ways, opening up an inordinate amount of possibilities, driven by clever game and level design. As per Hal's trademark development skills. A Euro release is a big unknown at the moment.

    Nintendo Mobile

Because the announcement thread is unfortunately called RIP Nintendo Nintendos first mobile game is being announced soon The guy heading it up is the guy who did Mario Kart, so people are maybe expecting F-Zero, but also Miyamoto mentioned Pikmin 4 being nearly finished but didn't mention the platform, and it's not like much is coming to Wii U at this point and NX isn't ready, so... Or it could be something completely different and new - speculation!

Shift DX (Choice Provisions, €4.99 / £4.00) - This series, known for its key concept of being able to "shift" the playing field to a different angle and therefore tackle puzzles in an interesting way, has spawned many sequels across PC and IOS. This iteration includes all the levels from the first two games and 100 more stages besides, so there'll be plenty to tackle; we'll get stuck in for a review. 3DS eShop Temporary Discounts SEVERED (Drinkbox Studios, €10.49 / £8.39 until 26th January, normally €14.99 / £11.99) OlliOlli (Curve Digital, €1.99 / £1.59 until 19th January, normally €9.99 / £7.99) Titan Attacks! Attack On Titan: Humanity in Chains

Bit of a strange one this game. But the fact that NoE decided to release it over here - albeit only on the eShop - got my attention. Originally released as Attack on Titan: The Last Wings of Mankind in Japan in December 2013, this is an action game developed by Spike Chunsoft for the Nintendo 3DS. It is set to be released this May in North America and Europe under the name Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains with Atlus being the publisher as a eShop exclusive. The game follows the story of the anime, beginning from the year 845, when the titans first attacked and demolished the walls. The story of Attack On Titan centers around the adventures of Eren Yaeger, his foster sister, Mikasa Ackerman, and their childhood friend, Armin Arlert. After the wall which protects their hometown of Shinganshina is breached by Titans, Eren watches in horror as one of them eats his mother. Vowing to kill all Titans, Eren enlists in the military, along with his friends. Five years later, the three cadet graduates are positioned in Trost District, one of the border towns jutting out of Wall Rose, when the Titans attack once more... The player initially controls series' protagonist Eren, but as the game progresses, Mikasa, Armin, and other members of the Survey Corps become playable. The game ends at the point where the anime ends as well. Trailer: Japanese overview trailer: Looks like an interesting action game with a twist, albeit rather unpolished. If the price is right, I might pick it up, as I'm a fan of the anime series, and I like weird unpolished games.
  9. Good week for discounts, and of course Shantae (which is TOMORROW!). Just as well as there's not a lot else! From Nintendolife: Wii U eShop Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (WayForward, €16.99 / £15.99) - WayForward's best-known franchise makes the leap to HD for the first time (outside of re-releases); originally funded on Kickstarter, it's been a long wait for this adventure. A chance to introduce Shantae and company to a new audience, we can expect this one to stick to the core formula as new players get used to hair whipping and transformations brought on by dancing. We'll whip out a review once we've had a chance to get through the full adventure. Available from 20th December. Back to Bed (Bedtime Digital, €9.99 / £8.99) - A title previously released on smart devices and PSN (including PS4 and Vita), this is a puzzle game with an isometric camera view. The goal is to guide your sleeping protagonists safely through a variety of areas, no doubt encountering some interesting obstacles in his dream state. RADIANTFLUX: HYPERFRACTAL (TACS Games, €2.99 / £2.99) - An intriguing looking title with a plot centred around hacking; in execution it looks like a blend of hacker simulation combined with minigames. For example there appear to be aspects of shoot 'em up play, through to minesweeper, through to some play similar to the original DOOM. We'll give this one a try and let you know what we think. Zombie Brigade: No Brain No Gain (Cypronia, €4.99 / £4.49 or free until 25th December for those that own Cube Life: Island Survival) - This is a runner that makes heavy use of memes (or things claiming to be memes) for comedic effect. That should give you an idea of whether this appeals to you on any level. Wii U DLC Minecraft: Wii U Edition - 1st Birthday Skin Pack (Mojang, free until 5th January) Minecraft: Wii U Edition - Fallout Mash-up (Mojang, €5.99 / £4.79) Minecraft: Wii U Edition - Doctor Who Skins I & II Bundle (Mojang, €5.99 / £4.79) Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts Mario Kart 8: Pack 1: The Legend of Zelda × Mario Kart 8 (Nintendo, €6.00 / £5.25 until 5th January, normally €8.00 / £7.00) Mario Kart 8: Pack 2: Animal Crossing x Mario Kart 8 (Nintendo, €6.00 / £5.25 until 5th January, normally €8.00 / £7.00) Mario Kart 8 Bundle: Pack 1 and 2 (Nintendo, €9.00 / £8.25 until 5th January, normally €12.00 / £11.00) LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (WB Games, €24.99 / £19.99 until 5th January, normally €49.99 / £39.99) LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (WB Games, €24.99 / £22.49 until 5th January, normally €49.99 / £44.99) LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (WB Games, €24.99 / £22.49 until 5th January, normally €49.99 / £44.99) The LEGO Movie Video Game (WB Games, €19.99 / £17.49 until 5th January, normally €39.99 / £34.99) LEGO The Hobbit (WB Games, €24.99 / £19.99 until 5th January, normally €49.99 / £39.99) LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens (WB Games, €24.99 / £19.99 until 5th January, normally €49.99 / £39.99) LEGO Jurassic World (WB Games, €24.99 / £17.49 until 5th January, normally €49.99 / £34.99) LEGO Marvel's Avengers (WB Games, €24.99 / £19.99 until 5th January, normally €49.99 / £39.99) DuckTales: Remastered (Capcom, €5.99 / £4.79 until 5th January, normally €14.99 / £11.99) Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara (Capcom, €4.90 / £3.95 until 5th January, normally €14.99 / £11.99) Resident Evil Revelations (Capcom, €9.99 / £7.99 until 5th January, normally €49.99 / £39.99) FAST Racing NEO (Shin'en Multimedia, €9.99 / £7.33 until 12th January, normally €14.99 / £10.99) SteamWorld Dig (Image & Form, €1.79 / £1.39 until 4th January, normally €8.99 / £6.99) SteamWorld Heist (Image & Form, €9.99 / £7.49 until 4th January, normally €19.99 / £14.99) Runbow (13AM Games, €6.99 / £5.49 until 5th January, normally €13.99 / £10.99) Pirate Pop Plus (13AM Games, €2.24 / £2.04 until 5th January, normally €4.49 / £4.09) Blek (Broken Rules, €2.74 / £2.24 until 5th January, normally €5.49 / £4.49) Chasing Aurora (Broken Rules, €3.49 / £2.99 until 5th January, normally €6.99 / £5.99) Electronic Super Joy (Broken Rules, €3.99 / £3.49 until 5th January, normally €7.99 / £6.99 Teslagrad (Rain Games, €4.49 / £4.19 until 5th January, normally €14.99 / £13.99) Gravity Badgers (Wales Interactive, €0.99 / £0.99 until 26th January, normally €4.99 / £4.99) Infinity Runner (Wales Interactive, €2.59 / £2.35 until 26th January, normally €6.49 / £5.89) Master Reboot (Wales Interactive, €4.79 / £3.99 until 26th January, normally €11.99 / £9.99) Swords & Soldiers II (Ronimo Games, €9.49 / £8.49 until 5th January, normally €18.99 / £16.99) Tengami (Nyamyam, €3.99 / £3.49 until 5th January, normally €7.99 / £6.99) Poncho (Rising Star Games, €4.49 / £3.99 until 5th January, normally €8.99 / £7.99) Race the Sun (Flippfly, €2.99 / £2.09 until 5th January, normally €9.99 / £6.99) Bombing Bastards (Sanuk Games, €3.49 / £2.99 until 5th January, normally €6.99 / £5.99) Spot the Differences! This one has over 300 puzzles to tackle, including 'Mega' size options, while a new feature is the ability to mark squares of interest without being penalised. We'll look at the full picture in a review. Geki Yaba Runner Deluxe (QubicGames, €4.99 / £4.49) - In a sense a follow up to 2 Fast 4 Gnomz, this sees those gnomes transform in order to tackle over 100 new levels; the developer states that these fast paced platforming challenges are among the most challenges players will face. Challenge accepted? Touch Battle Tank - Tag Combat (CIRCLE Entertainment, €3.99 / £3.99) - A 3D tank battle game, and not the first in this series, and this time it introduces local multiplayer and a whole lot of new stages. New tank types include 'warping' ones, and 90 stages are promised. SKYPEACE (Sonic Powered Co., €0.99 / £0.89) — This is a simple endless runner / flying sidescroller, which arrived in North America back in 2014; it's simple if unremarkable fun, as we explain in our SkyPeace review. Japanese Rail Sim 3D Monorail Trip to Okinawa (Sonic Powered Co. Ltd, €14.99 / £12.99) - The latest in an established series, this time opting for a monorail rather than conventional rails. These titles typically give you a semi-interactive tour of interesting areas, with plenty of local facts and details also included. 3DS Downloadable Video Shin Chan Vol. 1 (TV Asahi, free) Shin Chan Nintendo eShop 15th December

Lots on sale, slim pickings for good stuff though. Still, Minecraft Story Mode! For ALMOST THIRTY QUID?! HAHAHahahahahahahhafuckno. From Nintendolife: Wii U eShop Teslapunk (klutzGames, €9.99 / £8.99) - This has the look of an old-school vertical shoot 'em up, as you fight off an invasion from Mars "led by Emperor Zangórax, who back on Mars is a popular DJ by night and a frantic invader by day". Fair enough. It looks rather promising, and beyond a six stage campaign it has a survival mode; we'll blast away for a review. Scribble (Bear Box Media, €2.99 / £2.99) - This takes the core aspect of the equivalent Pictionary-based minigame in U Host and expands it across multiple modes. There are five modes and over 1500 words from 17 categories, with the option to also create your own words and contests; potentially ideal for the festive season. Breakout Defense (nuGAME, €7.00 / £7.00) - Based off the classic Breakout formula, this one seems focused on two paddles competing against each other, as you take on the AI or a friend locally. That seems to be the overall selling point here. Test Your Mind (XenoHorizon, €1.99 / £1.99) - As the name suggests this is a compilation of puzzles and minigames to put your brain to the test, and naturally it supports two player action for some couch multiplayer. Ultimately we were rather unimpressed in our Test Your Mind review. Wii U Virtual Console Pikmin 2 (Nintendo, €19.99 / £17.99) - This is the 'New Play Control' Wii version, utilising the Wii Remote's pointer capabilities. This release does now mean that the entire trilogy is available and playable on Wii U, which is a rather pleasing thing - we enjoyed this Wii version a lot in our original review. Wii U Retail Download Minecraft: Story Mode - The Complete Adventure (Telltale Games, €34.99 / £28.99) - The chapters for this eventually made their way to the eShop in North America, though Europeans missed out; now the 'complete' adventure is arriving as a retail release in the region. Available from 16th December. Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (Ubisoft, €14.99 / £9.99 until 29th December, normally €29.99 / £19.99) Assassin's Creed III (Ubisoft, €9.99 / £7.99 until 29th December, normally €19.99 / £15.99) Just Dance 2017 (Ubisoft, €29.99 / £23.99 until 29th December, normally €49.99 / £39.99) Rabbids Land (Ubisoft, €9.99 / £7.99 until 29th December, normally €19.99 / £15.99) Rayman Legends (Ubisoft, €14.99 / £11.99 until 29th December, normally €29.99 / £23.99) Sports Connection (Ubisoft, €7.99 / £6.39 until 29th December, normally €19.99 / £15.99) Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist (Ubisoft, €9.89 / £6.59 until 29th December, normally €29.99 / £19.99) Watch Dogs (Ubisoft, €14.99 / £12.49 until 29th December, normally €59.99 / £49.99) ZombiU (Ubisoft, €7.99 / £6.39 until 29th December, normally €19.99 / £15.99) Child of Light (Ubisoft, €4.94 / £3.95 until 29th December, normally €14.99 / £11.99) Darksiders II (Nordic Games, €9.99 / £7.99 until 29th December, normally €49.99 / £39.99) Legend of Kay Anniversary (Nordic Games, €5.99 / £3.99 until 29th December, normally €29.99 / £19.99) The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 (Nordic Games, €3.99 / £3.59 until 29th December, normally €19.99 / £17.99) Shadow Puppeteer (Snow Cannon, €10.49 / £9.44 until 5th January, normally €14.99 / £13.49) Soul Axiom (Wales Interactive, €7.49 / £5.99 until 12th January, normally €14.99 / £11.99) Beatbuddy (Threaks, €1.79 / £1.61 until 5th January, normally €8.99 / £8.09) Alphadia Genesis (Natsume, €7.49 / £5.99 until 29th December, normally €14.99 / £11.99) Brave Tank Hero (Natsume, €2.99 / £2.49 until 29th December, normally €5.99 / £4.99) Ninja Strike: Dangerous Dash (Natsume, €2.99 / £2.49 until 29th December, normally €5.99 / £4.99) 3Souls (Red Column, €1.80 / £1.60 until 8th January, normally €3.60 / £3.20) Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures (Screwattack Games, €4.99 / £4.49 until 29th December, normally €9.99 / £8.99) Inside My Radio (Seaven Studio, €5.99 / £5.19 until 5th January, normally €14.99 / £12.99) The Quiet Collection (Nostatic Software, €3.59 / £2.39 until 22nd December, normally €4.49 / £2.99) Stone Shire (Finger Gun Games, €1.49 / £1.34 until 31st December, normally €1.99 / £1.79) Dracula's Legacy (Joindots, €5.99 / £4.49 until 29th December, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Island Flight Simulator (Joindots, €5.99 / £4.49 until 29th December, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Grand Prix Rock 'N Racing (EnjoyUp Games, €4.95 / £4.45 until 12th January, normally €7.99 / £7.19) Gravity+ (Nitrolic Games, €3.24 / £2.94 until 5th January, normally €6.49 / £5.89) Mahjong (Sanuk Games, €3.99 / £3.59 until 29th December, normally €4.99 / £4.49) Solitaire (Sanuk Games, €3.99 / £3.59 until 29th December, normally €4.99 / £4.49) Super Destronaut 2: Go Duck Yourself (Petite Games, €1.59 / £1.49 until 29th December, normally €1.99 / £1.79) PictoParty (Retroid Interactive, €3.99 / £3.50 until 5th January, normally €7.99 / £7.00) Puzzle Monkeys (Log Games, €0.74 / £0.74 until 11th January, normally €1.49 / £1.49) Wii U eShop DLC Permanent Price Drop Gravity+ Level Editor (Nitrolic Games, €1.99 / £1.79, previously €3.99 / £3.59) 3DS eShop Johnny Dynamite (Twofivesix, €1.49 / £1.29 until 5th January, normally €1.99 / £1.29) - This is a platformer with some retro style (courtesy of vertical levels) in which you collect and use dynamite to clear 54 stages. It also has a level creator with QR code distribution; it got a big 'meh, it's alright' from us in our Johnny Dynamite review. The following are a series of small games released as inexpensive downloads, seemingly targeting a young audience. Kutar is a mascot that's "not a dog, cat or bear", with each short 'quest' supposed to be easy to play for young gamers: Kutar Apple (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) Kutar Burger Factory (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) Kutar Concert Staff (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) Kutar End Credits (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) Kutar Jump Rope (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) Kutar Magic Ball (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) Kutar Powder Factory (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) Kutar Quiz (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) Kutar Ski Lift (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) Kutar Tube Rider (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console Demon's Crest (Capcom, €7.99 / £7.19) - Firebrand the Gargoyle features here, and needs to recover elemental stones before his enemy, Phalanx. It's dramatic stuff, and this SNES action platformer also gives you freedom in stage order along with some ability to explore. We liked it a lot in our review. 3DS DLC Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse - Lore 1: Parellel Universes (Deep Silver, free) Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse - Lore 2: Observation Explained (Deep Silver, free) Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse - Extra Difficulty Levels (Deep Silver, free) Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse - The Inverted Pyramid (Deep Silver, €1.99 / £1.49) Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse - A Godslayer Needs Jewels (Deep Silver, €2.99 / £1.99) Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse - A Trip to Hawaii (Deep Silver, €2.49 / £1.79) Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse - Explosive Epidemic in Mikado (Deep Silver, €1.99 / £1.49) 7th Dragon III Code: VFD Quest: Code: Lucifer! 11. HahahaHAHAHAHahahah no. Well, some reasonable Sonic 3DS discounts, but that's it. From Nintendolife: Wii U eShop Frag doch mal...die Maus! (ASHGAMES, €9.99) - Only given a Euro price and likely targeted at Germany, obviously, this is based on a popular kids TV show in the country. A quiz game that was well received on PC in 2008(!), now it's on Wii U. That's nice. SHOOT THE BALL (RCMADIAX, €1.49 / £1.39) - Previously released on the New 3DS eShop; you use the touch screen to 'shoot' the ball into space, with randomised shapes and colours that set the difficulty level. Wii U Virtual Console Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (Nintendo, €19.99 / £17.99) - While the original GameCube version of this platformer utilised the famous bongo accessories, this Wii iteration introduced analogue control for movement, with occasional motion controls using the Remote and Nunchuk. We were big fans of this Wii version in our original review, and it's worth noting that the GameCube original was the debut project by Nintendo EAD Tokyo 'Group No. 1' - that team's second game was the outstanding Super Mario Galaxy. Sonic 25th Anniversary Sales - Wii U eShop Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (SEGA, €24.99 / £19.99 until 8th December, normally €49.99 / £39.99) Sonic Lost World (SEGA, €24.99 / £19.99 until 8th December, normally €49.99 / £39.99) Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (SEGA, €19.99 / £15.99 until 8th December, normally €49.99 / £39.99) Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts Art of Balance (Shin'en Multimedia, €6.74 / £5.36 until 22nd December, normally €8.99 / £7.15) Word Puzzles by POWGI (Lightwood Games, €7.19 / £6.39 until 8th December, normally €8.99 / £7.99) Dragon Skills (Joindots, €5.59 / £4.75 until 15th December, normally €7.99 / £6.79) Sweetest Thing (Joindots, €4.89 / £3.84 until 15th December, normally €6.99 / £5.49) 3DS Retail Downloads Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS (Nintendo, €39.99 / £34.99) - Only announced in September, this port of the excellent Wii U title takes away online sharing but introduces a new Mario Challenge mode and some portable benefits. Our review will be with you ahead of release, but until then you can check out our preview. Available from 2nd December. Picross 3D: Round 2 (Nintendo, €34.99 / £29.99 WHAT THE FUCK) - Europe has had to wait longer for this one, but has the added bonus of a physical retail option; this follow-up to the popular DS title arrived as a surprise in North America in early September. With colourful visuals, clever puzzles and amiibo support, we were full of praise for this one in our Picross 3D: Round 2 review. Available from 2nd December. Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse (Deep Silver, €39.99 / £34.99) - This long awaited title offers a different spin from its predecessor, with a new protagonist and some gameplay tweaks. As is standard for the series it's a high quality, atmospheric and engrossing RPG; you can check out a detailed assessment in our Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse review. 7th Dragon III Code: VFD (Deep Silver, €39.99 / £34.99) - The 3DS is graced with a lot of top-class RPG experiences, and this is another for the list. This particular series is established in Japan but is trying to seize momentum in the West, and offers its own twists on genre norms. You can learn all about what this one has to offer in our extensive 7th Dragon III Code: VFD review. My Nintendo 3DS Launch Discounts Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse - 50 Gold Points for discounted price of €35.99 / £31.49, otherwise €39.99 / £34.99. 7th Dragon III Code: VFD - 50 Gold Points for discounted price of €35.99 / £31.49, otherwise €39.99 / £34.99. New Nintendo 3DS eShop Hyperlight EX (CatfishBlues Games, €5.49 / £4.99) - Previously on smart devices, this is a colourful and high-tempo shoot 'em up, making it a relatively rare arrival in the genre on 3DS. It has multiple modes, control options and includes stereoscopic 3D, so we'll see whether it lives up to its potential in a review. CUP CRITTERS (RCMADIAX, €1.49 / £1.39) - This entry is all about managing gravity and manipulating balls into cups, with setting a high score being the main aim. 3DS eShop Mercenaries Saga 2 (CIRCLE Entertainment, €4.99) - Released earlier this year in Europe, this has been re-listed courtesy of a release in some additional mainland Europe territories. 3DS DLC Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse - Earring Set (Deep Silver, free until 8th December, normally €0.99 / £0.79) Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse - Fall of Tokyo Promo Video (Deep Silver, free) Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse - A Godslayer Needs Levels (Deep Silver, €2.99 / £1.99) Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse - Ranking Program 1 (Deep Silver, free) Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse - Asahi/Nozomi Set (Deep Silver, €0.99 / £0.79) Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse - Green Pompadour (Deep Silver, €0.99 / £0.79) 7th Dragon III Code: VFD Bonus Item: Nagamimi Doll (Deep Silver, free) 7th Dragon III Code: VFD Quest: Seed Outbreak! 12. Ignoring Pokemon, which is a retail release so doesn't really count, it's another shite week. Ah well, Switch'll be here soon enough. From Nintendolife: Wii U eShop Exile's End (XSEED Games, €9.99 / £8.99) - Here's one for those with retro sensibilities; billed as a "cinematic platformer" with Japanese flair, this takes place on "a massive, interconnected laboratory and mining complex on a moody, lonely alien world", and expects the player to solve puzzles and overcome issues using a combination of weapons and other items. It has retro-style visuals and features music from composers prominent in the 8- and 16-bit eras; we'll bring you a review soon. Ohayou! Beginner's Japanese (Finger Gun Games, €4.99 / £4.49) - This app aims to help users gain the building blocks for learning the language. The basic premise is that you use flash cards to learn and master Hiragana and Katakana characters, before tackling lessons to prove what you've learned. We'll try it out and then bring you a review. Octocopter: Super Sub Squid Escape (TACS Games, €2.99 / £2.69) - In this game you move your constantly spinning submarine through maze-like stages, with careful timing and patience important for success. Wii U Virtual Console Beat the Beat: Rhythm Paradise (Nintendo, €19.99 / £17.99) - This Wii entry in the series threw in some new minigames, though also replicated some content from previous games. That makes this one a bit of a toss-up as Rhythm Heaven Megamix is available on 3DS and is jam-packed with old and new minigames. Nevertheless, despite some flaws we enjoyed this Wii entry in our original review, so it's not to be easily dismissed. Wii U eShop Demo 3Souls (Red Column, free) Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts Oddworld New 'n' Tasty (Oddworld Inhabitants, €9.99 / £7.49 until 4th December, normally €19.99 / £14.99) Terraria (505 Games, €14,99 / £13.49 until 8th December, normally €19,99 / £17.99) Mighty No. 9 (Deep Silver, €9.99 / £8.99 until 8th December, normally €19.99 / £17.99) Mighty No. 9 Ray Expansion (Deep Silver, €2.49 / £2.24 until 8th December, normally €4.99 / £4.49) Mighty No. 9 Retro Hero DLC (Deep Silver, €1.49 / £1.19 until 8th December, normally €2.99 / £2.39) Secret Files: Tunguska (Deep Silver, €4.99 / £4.49 until 8th December, normally €9.99 / £8.99) 99Seconds (EnjoyUp Games, €1.24 / £1.14 until 22nd December, normally €2.49 / £2.29) Darts Up (EnjoyUp Games, €1.24 / £1.14 until 22nd December, normally €2.49 / £2.29) Rock 'N Racing Off Road (EnjoyUp Games, €2.99 / £2.69 until 22nd December, normally €5.99 / £5.39) VRog (ByteRockers' Games, €4.49 / £4.04 until 15th December, normally €4.99 / £4.49) SDK Paint (Hullbreach Studios, €3.75 / £3.37 until 8th December, normally €5.00 / £4.50) SDK Spriter (Hullbreach Studios, €9.37 / £7.87 until 8th December, normally €12.50 / £10.50) Wii U eShop Permanent Discount U Host (Bear Box Media, €4.99 / £4.99, previously €9.99 / £8.99) 3DS Retail Download Pokémon Sun and Moon (Nintendo, €44.99 / £39.99) - It's finally time, as the Pokémon series kicks off an all-new generation on the 3DS. These entries deliver some hugely significant changes to the franchise, from adjustments to story progression to new features that'll freshen up the competitive scene. We gave this a storming recommendation in our Pokémon Sun and Moon review. Available from 23rd November. Animal Crossing: New Leaf Welcome amiibo (Nintendo, €39.99 / £34.99) - The formal retail release of the updated edition of this evergreen title, remember that an update to include all of this Welcome amiibo content is already free for those that own the game. 13. No decent new games. No decent discounts. Load of old shite. Possibly the worst week ever, so just go and buy that Sega 3D Classics from Argos instead. Wow, eh?
  14. THREE DEE! THREEEEEE DEEEEE! Finally! Although we've had some of them already. Also! F-Zero X and HYRULE WARRIORS!!!!! From Nintendolife: Wii U eShop Twisted Fusion (Leuvsion, €5.00 / £4.00) - This Wii U-exclusive adventure / platformer has been long in the making, having been successfully funded on Kickstarter back in Spring 2014. It utilises the GamePad for a second display for those that want it (but also supports single-screen gaming), and offers a fair bit of freedom in approach, with added extras like monster breeding also included. Keep an eye out for our interview with the developer before the game launches, and we'll also get working on a review. Gravity+ (Nitrolic Games, €6.49 / £5.89) - A puzzle game 'suitable for all ages', you guide a robot through over 20 stages while manipulating gravity to avoid traps and obstacles; it also includes challenges and online leaderboards. Pinball Breakout (nuGAME, €7.00 / £6.00) - As the name suggests this one combines block-breaking gameplay with pinball mechanics, throwing in a multiplayer mode for good measure. Wii U Virtual Console F-Zero X (Nintendo, €9.99 / £8.99) - It seems slightly surprising that this one has evaded the current-gen Virtual Console up to now, but that's the case. It's a welcome addition now, with exciting speed, some memorable track designs and all-round fun racing to be found. You can check out our retro Wii Virtual Console F-Zero X review if you want a blast from the past; there's no mention of this being the US version in the press release, we should add, so we may have the slower 50Hz iteration. Wii U DLC Hyrule Warriors: A Link Between Worlds Pack (Nintendo, included with season pass, €4.99 / £4.49 Wii U only or €8.99 / £8.09 with 3DS version) Gravity+ Level Editor (Nitrolic Games, €3.99 / £3.59) Wii U eShop Temporary Discount Gear Gauntlet (Crystalline Green, €4.99 / £3.99 until 10th November, normally €9.99 / £7.99) Frankenstein - Master of Death (Joindots, €6.39 / £4.79 until 17th November, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Joe's Diner (Joindots, €6.39 / £4.79 until 17th November, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Suspension Railroad Simulator (Joindots, €6.39 / £4.79 until 17th November, normally €7.99 / £5.99) 360 Breakout (nuGAME, €5.00 / £4.50 until 30th November, normally €7.00 / £6.00) 3DS eShop Cartoon Network: Battle Crashers (GameMill Entertainment, €29.99 / £19.99) - A retail title only arriving as a download on 3DS in Europe, this is a multi-platform side-scrolling brawler that mashes up a range of popular IPs, including characters like Finn, Mordecai and Clarence. Collide-a-Ball (Starsign, €1.99 / £1.99) - Essentially a puzzle game that adopts a 3D isometric view, you need to manipulate ramps, blocks and more before setting balls loose; the goal is to have both reach the level-end flag at the same time. Ice Station Z (Wobbly Tooth, €2.99 / £2.99) - A survival game set in the arctic, this surprisingly budget-price game seems ambitious in concept, as it sets you the task of scavenging and surviving in a dangerous location. It seems interesting, and we'll be sure to check it out in a review. Unlucky Mage (KEMCO, €9.99 / £8.99) - Based upon the description of this one, which features kingdoms in conflict and a mysterious loner who can save the world, and considering KEMCO's modus operandi on 3DS, we expect this one to be a retro-inspired RPG. We shall see, and that doesn't necessarily have to be considered a bad thing, either. New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console Mario's Super Picross (Nintendo, €7.99 / £7.19) - The 3DS has a lot of Picross options, and now this rather enjoyable SNES entry in the genre joins the list. This one does nothing wrong, as we pointed out in our Wii U Virtual Console Mario's Super Picross review, but are D-Pad and button inputs in this retro entry worth dealing with in light of the substantial range of current-gen Picross games already on 3DS? That's up to you. 3DS Retail Download SEGA 3D Classics Collection (SEGA, €29.99 / £24.99) - This includes nine terrific 3D Classics, four of which are coming outside of Japan for the first time; that's a lot of wonderful retro gaming at its best on 3DS. We go through the key games and explain why it's a must-have in our SEGA 3D Classics Collection review. 3DS DLC Hyrule Warriors Legends: A Link Between Worlds Pack (Nintendo, included with season pass, €6.99 / £6.29 3DS only or €8.99 / £8.09 with Wii U version) 3DS eShop Temporary Discounts Funfair Party Games (Joindots, €5.59 / £3.99 until 17th November, normally €6.99 / £4.99) Jewel Match 3 (Joindots, €5.59 / £3.99 until 17th November, normally €6.99 / £4.99) Pazuru (Joindots, €4.79 / £3.19 until 17th November, normally €5.99 / £3.99) 3DS HOME Themes Animal Crossing: New Leaf Autumn Leaves (Nintendo, €1.99 / £1.79) Sonic Bundle #3 (SEGA, €4.99 / £4.49) - Includes Sonic series: Cute Style, Sonic series: Shadow Style and Sonic series: Silver Style. 15. When the best thing of the week is a free Sonic 25th Anniversary Theme for the 3DS, you know it ain't a good week. Oh, except Fairune 2 - hopefully that is great! From Nintendolife: Wii U eShop Mr. Pumpkin Adventure (CIRCLE Entertainment, €3.99 / £3.99) - This looks remarkably quirky, and it includes 50 scenes to explore and investigate, with a number of puzzles to tackle. It doesn't seem short of uniqueness and creativity. Solitaire (Sanuk Games, €4.99 / £4.49) - This appears to be exactly as the name suggests, a version of the iconic office time-waster on the Wii U. Wii U Retail Download Just Dance 2017 (Ubisoft, €49.99 / £39.99) - This series of dancing games continues to go strong, giving musical movers a chance to show off to a variety of pop hits. This one has a demo available, and all purchases get 90 days of free access to streaming service Just Dance Unlimited. Don't let the convoluted source of this one put you off, as it aims to deliver its own spin of mature horror on the 3DS. In our first impressions from E3 we explained the basics and said it's a treat for Japanese horror fans, and we'll get cracking on a review. Available from 26th October. Gurumin 3D: A Monstrous Adventure (Mastiff, €14.99 / £14.99) - A 3D action adventure game with a long history, in recent times its been remastered and revived for PC and, now, the 3DS. It puts the stereoscopic screen to work, and as a full retail game 'back in the day' it offers a lengthy campaign, multiple endings and various goodies. We were impressed with it in our Gurumin 3D: A Monstrous Adventure review. Downloads include a free 3DS HOME Theme. Fairune 2 (CIRCLE Entertainment, €6.99 / £6.89) - Another retro-styled RPG for the eShop, though we quite liked the original and its take on combat. This one will hopefully be similarly worthy of a recommendation, and a world five times bigger than in the first game is also promised. 16. Aside from the stand-alone Pokemon Sun/Moon demo, not much new this week. Loads of discounts though! From Nintendolife: Wii U eShop Pirate Pop Plus (13AM Games, €4.49 / £4.09 or free if you own the New 3DS version on the same Nintendo Account) - The title takes inspiration from Mitchell Corp's classic bubble-popping title Pang; with Game Boy-style visuals and an excellent chiptune soundtrack, it certainly looks the part. The gameplay involves popping bubbles and blasting enemies, but at certain points the gravity changes, placing you on the sides of the screen or even upside down on the ceiling. We enjoyed this in our hands on impressions and will get working on a review right away. Fire: Ungh's Quest (Daedalic, €9.99 / £8.99) - From a developer and publisher revered for its puzzle adventure games in Germany, particularly, this 'puzzleventure' promises plenty of personality and quirky environments and puzzles; we'll get cracking on a review. Super Destronaut 2: Go Duck Yourself (Petite Games, €1.99 / £1.79) - Looking very much like a clone of Taito's seminal Space Invaders, the game involves blasting oncoming enemies, collecting power-ups and grabbing coins to boost your score multiplier. Classic, Time Attack, Hardcore and "Invaders" modes are promised, and there's a multiplayer option as well. Wii U Virtual Console Project Zero 2: Wii Edition (Nintendo, €19.99 / £17.99) - A Wii retail title that was at the heart of a North American localisation storm in the last generation, this sees twins Mio and Mayu Amakura exploring a creepy village full of poltergeists, all waiting to be snapped on camera. We gave this a recommendation in our Project Zero 2: Wii Edition review. Wii U eShop Halloween Deals Bayonetta 2 (Nintendo, €34.99 / £27.99 until 3rd November, normally €49.99 / £39.99) Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water full game (Nintendo, 34.99 / £27.99 until 3rd November, normally €49.99 / £39.99) ZombiU (Ubisoft, €7.99 / £6.39 until 3rd November, normally €19.99 / £15.99) Darksiders II (Nordic Games, €12.49 / £9.99 until 3rd November, normally €49.99 / £39.99) Resident Evil Revelations (Capcom, €9.99 / £7.99 until 3rd November, normally €49.99 / £39.99) Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition (Capcom, €13.99 / £12.59 until 3rd November, normally €19.99 / £17.99) Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara (Capcom, €4.90 / £3.95 until 3rd November, normally €14.99 / £11.99) Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures (Bandai Namco, €9.99 / £9.00 until 3rd November, normally €39.99 / £36.99) Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 2 (Bandai Namco, €8.70 / £6.19 until 3rd November, normally €34.99 / £24.99) Don't Starve: Giant Edition (Klei Entertainment, €6.99 / £6.29 until 3rd November, normally €13.99 / £12.59) Super Meat Boy (Blitworks, €11.20 / £10.40 until 3rd November, normally €14.00 / £13.00) The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (Nicalis, €8.99 / £8.00 until 3rd November, normally €14.99 / £13.49) Year Walk (Simogo, €3.49 / £3.14 until 3rd November, normally €6.99 / £6.29) Lone Survivor: The Director's Cut (Curve Digital, €2.99 / £2.49 until 3rd November, normally €11.99 / £9.99) Costume Quest 2 (Midnight City, €7.49 / £6.74 until 3rd November, normally €14.99 / £13.49) Extreme Exorcism (Ripstone, €5.99 / £4.49 until 3rd November, normally €12.99 / £9.99) Nihilumbra (BeautiFun Games, €2.65 / £1.99 until 3rd November, normally €8.99 / £6.99) Shadow Puppeteer (Snow Cannon Games, €7.49 / £6.74 until 3rd November, normally €14.99 / £13.49) Ziggurat (Milkstone Studios, €9.00 / £7.00 until 3rd November, normally €15.00 / £12.00) Slender: The Arrival (Blue Isle Studios, €4.49 / £3.19 until 3rd November, normally €8.99 / £6.39) Whispering Willows (Abstraction Games, €4.99 / £3.99 until 3rd November, normally €9.99 / £7.99) How to Survive (505 Games, €6.99 / £6.29 until 3rd November, normally €13.99 / £12.59) Unepic (Unepic Fran, €4.99 / £4.40 until 3rd November, normally €9.99 / £8.99) Wii U Virtual Console Halloween Deals The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (Nintendo, €6.99 / £6.29 until 3rd November, normally €9.99 / £8.99) Devil World (Nintendo, €3.49 / £2.44 until 3rd November, normally €4.99 / £3.49) Pandora's Tower (Nintendo, €13.99 / £12.59 until 3rd November, normally €19.99 / £17.99) Castlevania (Konami, €3.49 / £2.44 until 3rd November, normally €4.99 / £3.49) Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (Konami, €3.49 / £2.44 until 3rd November, normally €4.99 / £3.49) Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (Konami, €3.49 / £2.44 until 3rd November, normally €4.99 / £4.49) Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (Konami, €4.89 / £4.40 until 3rd November, normally €6.99 / £6.29) Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (Konami, €4.89 / £4.40 until 3rd November, normally €6.99 / £6.69) Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance (Konami, €4.89 / £4.40 until 3rd November, normally €6.99 / £6.69) Castlevania: Dracula X (Konami, €5.59 / £3.84 until 3rd November, normally €7.99 / £5.49) Super Castlevania IV (Konami, €5.59 / £3.84 until 3rd November, normally €7.99 / £5.49) Ghosts 'n Goblins (Capcom, €3.49 / £2.44 until 3rd November, normally €4.99 / £3.49) Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts (Capcom, €5.59 / £3.84 until 3rd November, normally €7.99 / £5.49) Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts - GBA version (Capcom, €4.89 / £4.40 until 3rd November, normally €6.99 / £6.69) Gargoyle's Quest II: The Demon Darkness (Capcom, €3.49 / £2.44 until 3rd November, normally €4.99 / £3.49) Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts Tumblestone (The Quantum Astrophysicists Guild, €19.99 / £15.99 until 27th October, normally €24.99 / £19.99) Gunman Clive HD Collection (Hörberg Productions, €2.39 / £2.15 until 3rd November, normally €3.99 / £3.59) Human Resource Machine (Tomorrow Corporation, €6.99 / £6.29 until 27th October, normally €9.99 / £8.99) Little Inferno (Tomorrow Corporation, €4.99 / £4.49 until 27th October, normally €9.99 / £8.99) Hurry Up! This incorporates some minigames and content from past entries on GBA and DS, along with some all-new levels; it's a 'greatest hits' or sorts, as a result. We gave it a strong recommendation in our Rhythm Paradise Megamix review. 3DS eShop Ping Pong Trick Shot (Starsign, €1.99 / £1.99) - Slightly odd, as this is a video game version of throwing a ball into a cup. There are different modes (Score Attack, Time Attack and so on) and promises of wacky things like portals that'll shake this up. New Nintendo 3DS eShop Pirate Pop Plus (13AM Games, €4.49 / £4.09 or free if you own the Wii U version on the same Nintendo Account) - As per the Wii U iteration, but handily on the go and perhaps fitting the Game Boy aesthetic even better. New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console Super Castlevania IV (Konami, €5.59 / £5.00 until 3rd November, normally €7.99 / £7.19) - Some would argue that this is near the peak of the Castlevania franchise. This Super NES title is held in particularly high esteem for good reason, and is sure to tempt some download fans on the portable; you can see what we thought in our Super Castlevania IV review. Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts (Capcom, €5.59 / £5.00 until 3rd November, normally €7.99 / £7.19) — A SNES classic arrives on the New 3DS; it's a gruelling action game ready to test your skills and patience in the best possible way. With terrific sprite graphics and excellent music to help you along, we suspect most will make frequent use of save states on the New 3DS. We gave it a big recommendation in our Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts review. 3DS eShop Demo Pokémon Sun & Pokémon Moon: Special Demo Version (Nintendo, free) - Pitched as a unique adventure to complement the upcoming games, you can get familiar with the Alola Region alongside a special Ash-Greninja that you'll be able to transfer into the full game. We'll have impressions and coverage of the demo with you soon. Available 'late morning' on 18th October. 17. This week, the only thing worth getting is Chase. But for the sake of completeness, here's the full list from Nintendolife: Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts Another World - 20th Anniversary Edition (Digital Lounge, €3.99 / £3.59 until 27th October, normally €7.99 / £7.19) Never Alone (E-Line Media, €2.99 / £2.59 until 27th October, normally €14.99 / £12.99) Chompy Chomp Chomp Party (Utopian World of Sandwiches, €5.49 / £4.49 until 10th November, normally €10.99 / £8.99) STEEL RIVALS (nuGAME, €4.99 / £4.49 until 13th November, normally €6.99 / £5.99) 3DS Retail Download Disney Magical World 2 (Nintendo, €39.99 / £34.99) - This follow up once again offers a sim / adventure experience within a whole load of Disney settings; it's likely to be ridiculously charming, too. Famous franchises such as Frozen are included, and we were certainly quite impressed in our preview - we'll see whether it's a truly magical experience in our review. 3DS eShop Chase: Cold Case Investigations - Distant Memories (Aksys Games, €4.79 / £ 4.80 when discount is redeemed for 20 Gold Points in My Nintendo, normally €5.99 / £6.00) - An eye-catching project led by Taisuke Kanasaki and developed by the talents of multiple staff from the now shuttered CiNG studio. They're well known for narrative-driven titles on the DS in particular, including the likes of Trace Memory, Hotel Dusk: Room 215 and Last Window: The Secret of Cape West. This one seems to boast a noir-style, an intriguing plot, and the opportunity to investigate crime scenes and interrogate suspects. We'll crack the case of whether this is worth a look in our review. Ash (CIRCLE Entertainment, €3.99 / £3.99) - The latest in a relatively long line of classic-style RPGs to arrive at a budget price on the 3DS eShop. This one sticks to retro ideas but has issues with balancing, in particular, as we explained in our Ash review. 3DS eShop Temporary Discounts Jett Rocket II - The Wrath of Taikai (Shin'en Multimedia, €6.70 / £5.70 until 3rd November, normally €8.99 / £7.66) Another World - 20th Anniversary Edition (Digital Lounge, €3.99 / £3.59 until 27th October, normally €7.99 / £7.19) Gunslugs (Engine Software, €0.99 / £0.89 until 20th October, normally €1.99 / £1.79) Gunslugs 2 (Engine Software, €2.49 / £2.19 until 20th October, normally €4.99 / £4.49) Snow Moto Racing 3D (Zordix AB, €5.99 / £5.39 until 20th October, normally €7.99 / £7.19) Splat the Difference (Lightwood Games, €3.75 / £3.30 until 27th October, normally €5.00 / £4.50) Witch & Hero 2 (CIRCLE Entertainment, €2.99 / £2.39 until 3rd November, normally €3.99 / £3.19) Chain Blaster (Joindots, €4.49 / £3.77 until 27th October, normally €4.99 / £4.19) Jump Trials Supreme (Joindots, €4.49 / £3.77 until 27th October, normally €4.99 / £4.19) Hazumi (Gamelion, €1.30 / £0.99 until 27th October, normally €2.69 / £1.99) 10-in-1: Arcade Collection (Gamelion, €0.99 / £0.89 until 27th October, normally €1.99 / £1.79) Crazy Kangaroo (Gamelion, €0.99 / £0.89 until 27th October, normally €1.99 / £1.89) League of Heroes (Gamelion, €1.99 / £1.79 until 27th October, normally €3.99 / £3.59) Monster Shooter (Gamelion, €1.99 / £1.60 until 27th October, normally €4.00 / £3.20) Pick-A-Gem (Gamelion, €1.49 / £1.29 until 27th October, normally €2.99 / £2.69) PIX3D (Gamelion, €1.99 / £1.79 until 27th October, normally €3.99 / £3.59) Rage of the Gladiator (Gamelion, €3.49 / £3.09 until 27th October, normally €6.99 / £6.29) SpeedX 3D (Gamelion, €1.49 / £1.29 until 27th October, normally €2.99 / £2.69) SpeedX 3D Hyper Edition (Gamelion, €0.99 / £0.89 until 27th October, normally €1.99 / £1.79) 3DS HOME Themes At the Park with Miffy by Mercis (Mercis / CPLG, €0.99 / £0.89) Miffy at the Circus by Mercis (Mercis / CPLG, €0.99 / £0.89) Miffy in Autumn by Mercis (Mercis / CPLG, €0.99 / £0.89) Miffy trick or treat? 18. More meh than a field of goats. Colour Splash doesn't count. From Nintendolife: Wii U Retail Download Paper Mario: Color Splash (Nintendo, €49.99 / £39.99) - The series finally makes its bow on the Wii U, as Nintendo puts its expertise of HD craft-like visuals to work once again. This one introduces paint as a core mechanic, and otherwise offers a blend of timed button presses and items in battles. We were left impressed after spending time with it for our preview, and will have a review with you before release. Available from 7th October. Wii U eShop ACT IT OUT! A Game of Charades (Snap Finger Click, €9.99 / £8.99) - As the name suggests this is a party game in which you try to help others guess phrases or names. Originally on PS4, the GamePad touchscreen allows drawing to come into the mix in addition to acting and singing. It looks like a fun idea, but we'll see whether it's the right act in a review. Ninja Pizza Girl (Disparity Games, €8.99 / £7.99) - A 2D runner with sources of inspiration such as Sonic The Hedgehog and Mirror's Edge. Rather than a health gauge, however, the theme judges your esteem as you dash through delivering pizza as stylishly as possible; mistakes and enemies bring on taunts from bullies, with this game seeking to raise awareness of these issues. PING 1.5+ (NAMI TENTOU MUSHI, €4.49 / £3.99) — With retro-styled visuals and a steep difficulty level, this is over 100 levels of trying to shoot a cube through over 100 increasingly tricky levels. Though we feel this one falls short in some aspects, it has plenty of promise and good ideas in its favour; our review explains why. PSIBO (NAMI TENTOU MUSHI, €4.49 / £3.99) - Another title from this developer that opts for a retro aesthetic, which need not be a bad thing. This includes an endless modes after a campaign of fighting through 'hexagonal defence systems'; we'll let you know what we think in a review. VRog (ByteRockers' Games, €2.49 / £2.20 until 20th October, then €4.99 / £4.49) - A somewhat peculiar arrival as it's cited as a Virtual Reality game in which you play as a frog on a lake. That probably means exploring in first-person, though whether it'll have the same appeal without a pricey headset is unclear. Wii U Virtual Console WarioWare Smooth Moves (Nintendo, €19.99 / £17.99) - The Wii's entry in the chaotic and rather fun series, the Wii Remote becomes the 'Form Baton' for quickfire minigames. Multiplayer is unlocked after clearing single player (oddly) but nevertheless this offers good silly fun; we liked it in our WarioWare Smooth Moves review back in 2007. Wii U DLC Minecraft: Wii U Edition - Chinese Mythology Mash-up Pack (Mojang, €4.99 / £3.99) Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts Infinity Runner (Wales Interactive, €3.20 / £2.79 until 3rd November, normally €6.49 / £5.89) Word Search by POWGI (Lightwood Games, €5.99 / £4.49 until 13th October, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Dracula's Legacy (Joindots, €7.19 / £5.39 until 20th October, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Jones on Fire (Joindots, €5.39 / £4.13 until 20th October, normally €5.99 / £4.59) Queen's Garden (Joindots, €6.29 / £4.94 until 20th October, normally €6.99 / £5.49) 3DS Retail Download Mario Party: Star Rush (Nintendo, €39.99 / £34.99) - The second entry of this series to arrive on 3DS, though this one aims to address some criticisms of recent editions. Players now all move separately and at the same time to speed up games, while the free 'Guest' download allows groups to enjoy the full multiplayer game even with only one player owning a full copy. We had a good time in our preview, and will have a review with you before the game launches. Available from 7th October. 3DS eShop Mario Party: Star Rush - Party Guest (Nintendo, free) - As long as one of the players has a full copy of the main game, this allows a group of up to four to enjoy full local multiplayer for free. Epic Word Search Holiday Special (Lightwood Games, €7.99 / £5.99) - A continuation from previous entries in the series, but this time around it features categories themed around Holidays such as Halloween, Christmas and Valentine's Day. PixelMaker (Nostatic Software, $2.99 / CAD$3.49) - Having previously brought us VoxelMaker, Nostatic now takes a similar approach to producing pixel art. At a budget price this promises the ability to utilise the portable for producing scenes of pixel art, which can then naturally be shared to Miiverse. We enjoyed the Wii U version in our review, and will take a look at this portable iteration. New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console Breath of Fire (Capcom, €7.99 / £7.19, or €3.99 / £3.59 until 20th October if you own Breath of Fire II on New 3DS) — The Super NES wasn't short of RPG titles, and here's one of Capcom's more prominent efforts from the era; you play as Ryu (and companions) who has the ability to transform into a powerful beast, which must be handy when saving the world. Our reviewer did feel that this is rather dated compared to its 16-bit contemporaries, a point we explained in our previous Breath of Fire review. Breath of Fire II (Capcom, €7.99 / £7.19, or €3.99 / £3.59 until 20th October if you own Breath of Fire on New 3DS) — Nintendo's classic 16-bit console is revered for many things, but one of its strengths was surely the abundance of RPG adventures that it brought gamers keen for an adventure. This may be a sequel on the Super NES, but it offers up just that kind of experience while being undoubtedly old-school — and harsh — in its approach. We nevertheless gave it a recommendation in our Breath of Fire II review. My Nintendo Reward Chase: Cold Case Investigations - Distant Memories (Aksys Games, €4.79 / £ 4.80 when discount is redeemed for 20 Gold Points, normally €5.99 / £6.00) - Here's an interesting one, advance warning of a My Nintendo discount on a game due to be released on 13th October. Essentially a launch discount on the game, this will be available to redeem from 6th October until 27th October. 3DS eShop Temporary Discounts Aqua Moto Racing 3D (Zordix AB, €5.99 / £5.39 until 13th October, normally €7.99 / £7.19) Word Search by POWGI (Lightwood Games, €5.99 / £4.49 until 13th October, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Urban Trial Freestyle (Tate Multimedia, €1.49 / £1.29 until 27th October, normally €4.99 / £4.49) Castle Conqueror Defender (CIRCLE Entertainment, €3.49 / £2.79 until 27th October, normally €4.99 / £3.99) 3D MahJongg (Joindots, €3.99 / £3.59 until 20th October, normally €4.99 / £4.49) Gardenscapes (Joindots, €6.39 / £4.79 /until 20th October, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Murder on the Titanic (Joindots, €6.39 / £4.79 until 20th October, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Safari Quest (Joindots, €5.59 / £3.99 until 20th October, normally €6.99 / £4.99) Cats and Dogs 3D - Pets at Play (Treva Entertainment, €7.99 / £6.79 until 20th October, normally €29.99 / £24.99) Life With Horses 3D (Treva Entertainment, €14.99 / £13.49 until 20th October, normally €19.99 / £17.99) My Little Baby 3D (Treva Entertainment, €7.99 / £6.79 until 20th October, normally €29.99 / £24.99) Pets Resort 3D (Treva Entertainment, €7.99 / £6.79 until 20th October, normally €29.99 / £17.99) 3DS eShop Permanent Discount Power Disc Slam (Chequered Cow Games, €5.49 / £4.99, previously €11.99 / £9.99 3DS HOME Themes Disappearance of Hatsune Miku (DWANGO, €1.99 / £1.79) Melancholic (DWANGO, €1.99 / £1.79) Ii Aru Fanclub (DWANGO, €1.99 / £1.79) Lost One's Weeping (DWANGO, €1.99 / £1.79) Brain Fluid Explosion Girl (DWANGO, €1.99 / £1.79) Hello Kitty autumn (Sanrio, €0.99 / £0.89) Hello Kitty Comics (Sanrio, €0.99 / £0.89) Hello Kitty cupcakes (Sanrio, €0.99 / £0.89) Hello Kitty Unicorn (Sanrio, €0.99 / £0.89)
  19. Sonic Boom! Sonic Boom! BULLSHEEEEET. Thankfully, some good stuff too. From Nintendolife: Wii U eShop SteamWorld Heist (Image & Form, €19.99 / £14.99) - The follow-up to breakthrough title SteamWorld Dig, this adopts a turn-based 2D strategy approach for the highly stylised steambot IP. A lengthy campaign is delivered along with plenty of weapons and hats, because robots wearing hats are surely irresistible; we loved this in our SteamWorld Heist review for the 3DS eShop, and will take another look at this HD iteration. Available from 30th September. Soul Axiom (Wales Interactive, €14.99 / £11.99 or €12.74 / £10.19 until 15th October for those that have the Nindies@Home demo) - Similar in stylistic approach to Master Reboot, this nevertheless has its own story and twists on puzzle-based stages. With a relatively surreal style and the ability to phase objects in and out of existence, this certainly has plenty of potential. We'll explore its mysteries for our upcoming review. Quest of Dungeons (Upfall Studios, €8.99 / £7.99 or free if you own the 3DS version on the same Nintendo Network ID) - A turn-based dungeon-crawling roguelike, this one has the choice of four character classes, with the key challenge being to tackle randomly generated dungeons, accumulate loot and then boost your abilities. Throw in boss encounters, permadeath and multiple difficulty levels and this is full of promise. We'll have a review with you soon. SDK Spriter (HullBreach Studios, €12.50 / £10.50 or €10.00 / £8.40 if you own SDK Paint on the same Nintendo Network ID) - An app that may be tempting for creative retro enthusiasts, this aims to be a tool for "creating retro video game assets, including character sprite sheets, tile sets, maps, and full levels", which can be shared on Miiverse or the app's official site. Wii U DLC FAST Racing NEO: NEO Future Pack (Shin'en Multimedia,€4.99 / £4.20) - This will include eight new tracks, ten new vehicles and 18 new music tracks; we'll check this out and share some impressions. Available from 30th September. SteamWorld Heist: The Outsider (Image & Form, €4.99 / £4.49) - Available from 30th September. SteamWorld Heist - Hatbox: Hatful Eight + 2 (Image & Form, €1.99 / £1.79) - Available from 1st October. SteamWorld Heist - Hatbox: Three 4 Free (Image & Form, free) - Available from 2nd October. Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts BIT.TRIP Presents... Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien (Gaijin Games, €5.99 / £4.99 until 3rd October, normally €11.99 / £9.99) Gravity Badgers (Wales Interactive, €2.49 / £2.49 until 29th October, normally €4.99 / £4.99) Bit Dungeon+ (Dolores Entertainment, €4.00 / £3.60 until 6th October, normally €4.99 / £4.99) Dual Core (Gray Fin Studios, €6.99 / £5.99 until 13th October, normally €9.99 / £8.99) Midnight 2 (Petite Games, €1.59 / £1.43 until 20th October, normally €1.99 / £1.79) 99Seconds (EnjoyUp Games, €1.49 / £1.34 until 27th October, normally €2.49 / £2.29) Darts Up (EnjoyUp Games, €1.49 / £1.34 until 27th October, normally €2.49 / £2.29) Rock 'N Racing Off Road (EnjoyUp Games, €2.99 / £2.69 until 27th October, normally €5.99 / £5.39) Run Run and Die (EnjoyUp Games, €1.99 / £1.79 until 27th October, normally €3.99 / £3.59) Hot Rod Racer (ZeNfA Productions, €1.49 / £1.34 until 27th October, normally €2.99 / £2.69) ZaciSa: Defense of the Crayon Dimensions! (ZeNfA Productions, €1.49 / £1.14 until 27th October, normally €2.99 / £2.29) Epic Dumpster Bear (Log Games, €3.89 / £2.99 until 27th October, normally €6.49 / £4.99) Nintendo Selects eShop Permanent Discounts (from 30th September) Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Nintendo, €24.99 / £19.99, previously €39.99 / £34.99) Mario Party 10 (Nintendo, €24.99 / £19.99, previously €39.99 / £34.99) Pikmin 3 (Nintendo, €24.99 / £19.99, previously €49.99 / £39.99 ) Super Mario 3D World (Nintendo, €24.99 / £19.99, previously €59.99 / £49.99 ) 3DS eShop River City: Tokyo Rumble (Natsume, €29.99 / £24.99) - A title that originally seemed to be destined as a Japan-only release, credit is due to Natsume for bringing this to the West, albeit it's download-only in Europe. This side-scrolling brawler is the latest in a diverse series that's been known as Renegade, River City Ransom, Street Gangs, Crash 'n The Boys, and Double Dragon depending on region, and this modern day iteration continues some of the traditions seen in games like those; it also has two minigames, a free-for-all arena brawler and a dodgeball game. We'll check it out in a review, but until then you can learn more about it in our first impressions article from E3. Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 (Inti Creates, €11.69 / £9.99 until 5th October, normally €12.99 / £11.10) - A much-anticipated sequel to a critically acclaimed eShop release, this looks set to include more of the same enjoyable gameplay with a few extra twists, including Copen as a playable character. We'll let you know what we think soon. Ninja Usagimaru - The Mysterious Karakuri Castle (Aksys Games, €5.99 / £5.00) - We rather enjoyed this one's predecessor, which blends a lovely Japanese aesthetic with tricky and clever puzzles. 60+ levels are promised in this new entry, and it'll be interesting to see whether it matches the quality of the original. Quest of Dungeons (Upfall Studios, €8.99 / £7.99 or free if you own the Wii U version on the same Nintendo Network ID) - The same game but on the go, albeit with StreetPass included; the idea is that if you pass others you may come across the ghost of one of their failed attempts, which you can try to kill and loot. Noah's Cradle (CIRCLE Entertainment, €4.99 / £3.99) - An action flying game that brings the Ace Combat series to mind. It promises six levels and has a heck of a backstory, so could be promising. 3DS Retail Downloads *WARNING WARNING WARNING* Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice (SEGA, €39.99 / £34.99) - The Sonic Boom brand is tainted in some eyes by its disastrous Wii U game, but an initial 3DS release and the TV series are reasonable (and in the latter case popular) efforts. This 3DS sequel gives Sonic and friends the ability to switch between fire and ice elements, and features some solid (and occasionally pacey) gameplay. We'll have a review with you before release, but in the meantime you can learn more about this one in our Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice preview. Available from 30th September. DO NOT BUY THIS UTTER, UTTER SHITE. 3DS DLC Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice: Special Episode (Capcom, €5.99 / £5.39) 3DS eShop Temporary Discounts Art of Balance TOUCH! (Shin'en Multimedia, €5.20 / £4.70 until 20th October, normally €6.99 / £6.29) Epic Word Search Collection (Lightwood Games, €5.99 / £4.49 until 6th October, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Epic Word Search Collection 2 (Lightwood Games, €5.99 / £4.49 until 6th October, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Demon King Box (CIRCLE Entertainment, €2.99 / £2.39 until 20th October, normally €3.99 / £3.19) Parking Star 3D (CIRCLE Entertainment, €1.99 / £1.69 until 20th October, normally €2.99 / £2.49) Quell Reflect (CIRCLE Entertainment, €2.99 / £2.39 until 20th October, normally €3.99 / £3.19) Football Up Online (EnjoyUp Games, €1.99 / £1.79 until 27th October, normally €3.99 / £3.59) Crazy Construction (Joindots, €5.59 / £3.99 until 6th October, normally €6.99 / £4.99) Alien on the Run (Joindots, €3.99 / £3.35 until 6th October, normally €4.99 / £4.19) 3DS HOME Themes The Legend of Dark Witch 2 - Herbert Theme (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) The Legend of Dark Witch 2 - Icke Theme (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) The Legend of Dark Witch 2 - Klinsy Theme (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) The Legend of Dark Witch 2 - Kuito Theme (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) The Legend of Dark Witch 2 - Litty Theme (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) The Legend of Dark Witch 2 - Mari Theme (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) The Legend of Dark Witch 2 - Rudy Theme (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) The Legend of Dark Witch 2 - Sola Theme (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) The Legend of Dark Witch 2 - Urken Theme (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) The Legend of Dark Witch 2 - Zizou Theme (CIRCLE Entertainment, €0.99 / £0.99) Encave II Theme (Bergsala, €1.99 / £1.79) Encave III (Bergsala, €1.99 / £1.79) Shantae Beach (Bozon, €1.99 / £1.79)

    Nintendo eShop 8th September

Not done one of these for a few weeks because 1) I've been busy, and 2) They've been shit. But this week is pretty good. Also, don't forget there were new StreetPass games last week - all 5 are pretty good, so you may as well buy the set, but you can choose either the slot car or the stock market one for free if you're strapped for money - they're both great. And there's a demo of Phoenix Wright too Oh, and a warning about the Sega 3D Classics - those are great games, and great prices BUT! there's a physical medium collection incoming soon so you might want to hold fire. Or buy both. Actually, buy both. And get Fairune while you're there. As usual, from Nintendolife: Wii U eShop Jotun: Valhalla Edition (Thunder Lotus Games, €13.49 / £10.79 until 15th September, normally €14.99/ £11.99) - A well-regarded title that Nintendo is promoting as one of the key 'Nindie' releases this month, it adopts a mostly overhead view as you battle to prove yourself to the Gods. With gorgeous visuals and steeped in Norse mythology, this one looks promising; we'll bring you a review but, in the meantime, we had a chat with the developers just before E3 that you can check out. 140 (Double Fine Productions, €7.99 / £5.59) - This has a minimalistic aesthetic for its blend of puzzle platforming. Developed by Carlsen Games / Abstraction Games this seems to be oozing style, and has a nice soundtrack to boot. We'll see whether it all adds up well in our review. Vektor Wars (Super Icon Ltd, €7.99 / £7.99 ) - A first-person shooter with stylised vector-based visuals, this has '9 world zones' in which you blast away at a variety of robot foes. We rather liked this for some intense arcade-style action, as we explain in our Vektor Wars review. Rorrim (Nitrolic Games, €4.52 / £4.09) - A Princess gets sucked into a mirror and a world of dungeons, and you have to guide her through maze-like areas from a top-down perspective. The twist here is that the GamePad and the TV show 'Mirror' and 'Real' viewpoints, so you need both to solve the puzzles and make progress. We'll go on a rescue mission and let you know what we think. Alice in Wonderland (Brave Rock Games, €4.52 / £3.78) - This appears to be a narrated visual novel with some illustrations as you read along and listen. We'll see whether it does a classic book justice in our review. TOUCH SELECTIONS (RCMADIAX, €2.99 / £2.69) - This combines two previous releases in one download: PEG SOLITAIRE and AVOIDER. Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts Mighty No. 9 (Deep Silver, €15.99 / £14.39 until 15th September, normally €19.99 / £17.99) Mighty No. 9 - Ray Expansion DLC (Deep Silver, €3.74 / £3.37 until 15th September, normally €4.99 / £3.99) Dragon Skills (Joindots, €7.19 / £6.11 until 22nd September, normally €7.99 / £6.79) Island Flight Simulator (Joindots, €7.19 / £5.39 until 22nd September, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Sweetest Thing (Joindots, €4.89 / £3.84 until 22nd September, normally €6.99 / £5.49) Bird Mania Party (Teyon, €0.99 / £0.89 until 29th September, normally €1.99 / £1.79) Zombie Defense (Teyon, €1.49 / £1.49 until 29th September, normally €1.99 / £1.99) Baila Latino (O2 Games, €12.90 / £11.90 until 5th October, normally €29.90 / £24.90) Fit Music for Wii U (O2 Games, €12.90 / £11.90 until 5th October, normally €29.90 / £24.90) Luv Me Buddies Wonderland (O2 Games, €12.90 / £11.90 until 5th October, normally €29.90 / £24.90) 360 Breakout (nuGAME, €5.00 / £4.00 until 6th October, normally €7.00 / £6.00) Wii U eShop Permanent Discount Canvaleon (OXiAB Game Studio, €4.95 / £4.49, previously €6.95 / £6.29) 3DS eShop Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice (Capcom, €29.99 / £24.99) - The latest in the series to make its way to the West as a download, this promising entry, this one features an extended cast of familiar faces, a mystical location and new features and twists such as séance trials. We're working on a review, but until then you can check out our impressions of the E3 demo. Kingdom's Item Shop (CIRCLE Ent, $5.00) - A quirky premise in which you run an item shop in a fantasy land, catering to heroes and their needs. You're supposed to set out and find new ingredients and goods to sell, however, and we suspect this one will aim to be as charming as possible. We'll open the doors on a review soon. New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console Final Fight (Capcom, €7.99 / £7.19 or buy 2 get the 3rd free on New 3DS VC Final Fight trilogy) — This is one of the earlier arcade conversions to the Super NES, and an iconic beat 'em up that's certainly welcome on the New portable's Virtual Console. Though this beat 'em up port lacks the co-op play that made the arcade a classic it's still enjoyable, as we explained in our New 3DS Virtual Console Final Fight review. Final Fight 2 (Capcom, €7.99 / £7.19 or buy 2 get the 3rd free on New 3DS VC Final Fight trilogy) — This second entry rights some wrongs of the first, including multiple playable characters and two-player co-op (the description for this New 3DS version does mention you can "have a friend join the fight"), though perhaps disappoints with some gameplay elements. You can see what we thought in our Wii U Virtual Console Final Fight 2 review, while we'll take to the streets again to take a fresh look. Final Fight 3 (Capcom, €7.99 / £7.19 or buy 2 get the 3rd free on New 3DS VC Final Fight trilogy) — Rounding off the Super NES trilogy of titles hitting the New 3DS VC this week, this one includes more brawling on the streets but also the option of an automatic two player mode where you play with the CPU. By our reckoning this third entry is probably the best of the group, as explained in our Wii U Virtual Console Final Fight 3 review. 3DS DLC Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Spirit of Justice Costume Bundle (Capcom, €0.99 / £0.89) 3DS eShop Temporary Discounts 3D Fantasy Zone (SEGA, €2.45 / £2.20 until 15th September, normally €4.99 / £4.49) 3D Gunstar Heroes (SEGA, €2.45 / £2.20 until 15th September, normally €4.99 / £4.49) 3D Out Run (SEGA, €2.45 / £2.20 until 15th September, normally €4.99 / £4.49) 3D Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master (SEGA, €2.45 / £2.20 until 15th September, normally €4.99 / £4.49) 3D Space Harrier (SEGA, €2.45 / £2.20 until 15th September, normally €4.99 / £4.49) 3D Streets of Rage (SEGA, €2.45 / £2.20 until 15th September, normally €4.99 / £4.49) 3D Streets of Rage 2 (SEGA, €2.45 / £2.20 until 15th September, normally €4.99 / £4.49) 3D Super Hang-On (SEGA, €2.45 / £2.20 until 15th September, normally €4.99 / £4.49) Lord of Magna: Maiden Heaven (Marvelous, €17.99 / £14.99 until 22nd September, normally €29.99 / £24.99) Adventure Bar Story (CIRCLE Entertainment, €3.99 / £3.19 until 29th September, normally €4.99 / £3.99) Castle Conqueror EX (CIRCLE Entertainment, €2.99 / £2.39 until 29th September, normally €3.99 / £3.19) Fairune (CIRCLE Entertainment, €1.99 / £1.59 until 29th September, normally €2.99 / £2.39) World Conqueror 3D (CIRCLE Entertainment, €3.99 / £3.19 until 29th September, normally €4.99 / £3.99) Rytmik Ultimate (Cinemax, €6.99 / £5.99 until 29th September, normally €17.99 / £15.99) The Keep (Cinemax, €3.99 / £3.49 until 29th September, normally €9.99 / £8.99) Cubit The Hardcore Platformer Robot (Coderchild, €1.99 / £1.80 until 29th September, normally €2.99 / £2.69) WordsUp! 21. This week, from Nintendolife, some reasonable 3DS discounts and ALL THE MEGAMANZ. Nintendo missing a trick not releasing/reducing some Pokeymen games now the Blue/Red/Yellow deal is up: Wii U eShop Frankenstein - Master of Death (Joindots, €7.99 / £5.99) - This is another puzzle / object finding title with a focus on storytelling, seemingly similar in approach to the surprisingly good Dracula's Legacy. You're in the role of Victor Frankenstein (the real Frankenstein, not the monster!), and we're inclined to be optimistic about this one based on the quality of its predecessor. We'll bring you a review soon. Mortar Melon (Nitrolic Games, €5.00 / £4.49 ) - A physics-based title in which you fling a watermelon through multiple tricky stages, riffing on ideas that have been a major success in recent years. In our review we felt this one lacked creativity, while also suffering from some notable control issues. Plenty of Fishies (Nitrolic Games, €5.00 / £4.49 ) — This is a collection of modes and challenges for single players or groups up to five, with bite-sized challenges the order of the day. Due to some serious issues with performance, however, we were exceptionally critical of this game in our review. 360 Breakout (nuGAME, €7.00 / £6.00) - This one promises an 'out of the ordinary' Breakout experience, with the name suggesting a 360 degree challenge. With solo play being accompanies by two play VS and co-op, this tries to offer some variety to the classic formula; we'll see whether it's a breakout success in a review. Wii U Virtual Console Super Paper Mario (Nintendo, €19.99 / £17.99) - With its successor on the way this October, this rather clever Wii title makes its bow on the eShop. Unique in its adoption of both 2D and 3D perspectives, it also has an entertaining story and a fairly lengthy campaign. We were big fans in our original Super Paper Mario review. Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts Resident Evil Revelations (Capcom, €9.99 / £7.99 until 25th August, normally €49.99 / £39.99) DuckTales: Remastered (Capcom, €5.99 / £4.79 until 25th August, normally €14.99 / £11.99) Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara (Capcom, €4.94 / £3.95 until 25th August, normally €14.99 / £11.99) Trine 2: Director's Cut (Frozenbyte, €8.49 / £6.99 until 29th August, normally €16.99 / £13.99) Trine Enchanted Edition (Frozenbyte, €6.49 / £5.49 until 29th August, normally €12.99 / £10.99) Wicked Monsters Blast! HD PLUS (Corecell, €2.99 / £2.69 until 1st September, normally €7.99 / £7.19) Joe's Diner (Joindots, €4.99 / £3.77 until 25th August, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Suspension Railroad Simulator (Joindots, €6.39 / £4.79 until 25th August, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Reptilian Rebellion (Herrero, €1.49 / £1.29 until 1st September, normally €1.99 / £1.79) 3DS eShop Ambition of the Slimes (CIRCLE Entertainment, €5.00 / £4.79) - A turn-based RPG in which you control a variety of slimes, rather than fighting them as you would in a certain classic series. The slimes have various types, strengths and weaknesses that need to be exploited for success. We'll get working on a review. Doll Fashion Atelier (Teyon, €4.99 / £4.49) - Teyon is a publisher that's never away from the eShop for long, and returns with a dress-up game in which you can style a variety of dolls across five different themes; naturally you can share your creations on Miiverse, too. With that said, we weren't fans of this in our Doll Fashion Atelier review. 3DS Retail Download Teddy Together (Nintendo) - A friendship game designed particularly for young children, you care for and interact with a teddy bear that's come to life. Released in Europe back on 1st July, this listing in Nintendo's press release is for its arrival in Australia / New Zealand on 11th August. New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console Mega Man X2 (Capcom, €3.99 / £3.59 until 25th August if you own Mega Man X3, otherwise €7.99 / £7.19) — While spin-offs aren't always a success, the early X games in the Mega Man series certainly captured the imagination. With a move-set and approach somewhat different to the "classic" series, this sequel is a rather good follow up to its X predecessor; we enjoyed this one in our Wii U Virtual Console Mega Man X2 review, and will take another look on New 3DS. Mega Man X3 (Capcom, €3.99 / £3.59 until 25th August if you own Mega Man X3, otherwise €7.99 / £7.19) — A game that represented the end of an era as Mega Man departed from Nintendo hardware to other platforms. As a farewell it's perhaps disappointing, and we were critical of it in our Wii U Virtual Console Mega Man X3 review. 3DS Demos Disney Art Academy (Nintendo, free) Undead Bowling (Joindots, free) 3DS eShop Temporary Discounts Resident Evil Revelations (Capcom, €8.99 / £7.49 until 25th August, normally €29.99 / £24.99) Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D (Capcom, €3.99 / £3.59 until 25th August, normally €9.99 / £8.99) Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition (Capcom, €7.99 / £7.19 until 25th August, normally €19.99 / £17.99) Mega Man Legacy Collection (Capcom, €9.99 / £7.99 until 25th August, normally €14.99 / £11.99) Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy (Capcom, €14.99 / £12.49 until 25th August, normally €29.99 / £24.99) Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies (Capcom, €9.99 / £7.99 until 25th August, normally €24.99 / £19.99) Return to PopoloCrois: A STORY OF SEASONS Fairytale (Marvelous, €22.99 / £19.99 until 25th August, normally €34.99 / £29.99) AeternoBlade (Corecell, €4.99 / £4.49 until 1st September, normally €14.99 / £13.50) Beyblade Evolution (Rising Star Games, €4.99 / £4.99 until 25th August, normally €19.99 / £19.99) BIT.TRIP SAGA (Rising Star Games, €4.99 / £4.49 until 25th August, normally €19.99 / £17.99) Girls' Fashion Shoot (Rising Star Games, €4.99 / £4.99 until 25th August, normally €19.99 / £19.99) Hakuoki: Memories of the Shinsengumi (Rising Star Games, €11.99 / £11.99 until 25th August, normally €29.99 / £29.99) Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns (Rising Star Games, €9.99 / £8.99 until 25th August, normally €19.99 / £17.99) Hometown Story (Rising Star Games, €7.49 / £7.49 until 25th August, normally €29.99 / £29.99) Shifting World (Rising Star Games, €4.99 / £4.49 until 25th August, normally €19.99 / £17.99) Virtue's Last Reward (Rising Star Games, €12.49 / £9.99 until 25th August, normally €24.99 / £19.99) SADAME (Rising Star Games, €7.49 / £6.49 until 25th August, normally €14.99 / £12.99) Real Heroes Firefighter 3D (Zordix AB, €4.99 / £4.49 until 18th August, normally €9.99 / £8.99) Funfair Party Games (Joindots, €4.99 / £3.69 until 25th August, normally €6.99 / £4.99) Jewel Match 3 (Joindots, €3.99 / £2.89 until 25th August, normally €6.99 / £4.99) Pazuru (Joindots, €4.99 / £2.99 until 25th August, normally €5.99 / £3.99) Undead Bowling (Joindots, €2.99 / £2.13 until 25th August, normally €6.99 / £4.99) Brunch Panic (CIRCLE Entertainment, €2.99 / £2.49 until 1st September, normally €3.99 / £3.39) Petit Novel Series - Harvest December (CIRCLE Entertainment, €7.99 / £6.39 until 1st September, normally €11.99 / £9.19) Sweet Memories Blackjack (CIRCLE Entertainment, €2.99 / £2.39 until 1st September, normally €3.99 / £3.19) 10-in-1: Arcade Collection (Gamelion, €0.99 / £0.89 until 1st September, normally €1.99 / £1.79) Crazy Kangaroo (Gamelion, €0.99 / £0.89 until 1st September, normally €1.99 / £1.89) Hazumi (Gamelion, €1.30 / £0.99 until 1st September, normally €2.69 / £1.99) League of Heroes (Gamelion, €1.99 / £1.79 until 1st September, normally €3.99 / £3.59) Monster Shooter (Gamelion, €1.99 / £1.60 until 1st September, normally €4.00 / £3.20) Pick-A-Gem (Gamelion, €1.49 / £1.29 until 1st September, normally €2.99 / £2.79) PIX3D (Gamelion, €1.99 / £1.79 until 1st September, normally €3.99 / £3.59) Rage of the Gladiator (Gamelion, €3.49 / £3.09 until 1st September, normally €6.99 / £6.29) SpeedX 3D Hyper Edition (Gamelion, €0.99 / £0.89 until 1st September, normally €1.99 / £1.79) SpeedX 3D (Gamelion, €1.49 / £1.29 until 1st September, normally €2.99 / £2.69) 3DS HOME Themes Animal Crossing: Summer Fun (Nintendo, €1.99 / £1.79)
  22. Not full list yet, but! Three Street Fighter games are on the way to the New 3DS: Street Fighter II Turbo Super Street Fighter II Street Fighter Alpha And it's buy two, get one free. All fine and dandy, but they're all the SNES versions. Which isn't a problem so much for the Street Fighter II games, but a shame for SFA2. EDIT! Full list from Nintendolife: Wii U eShop Secret Files: Tunguska (Deep Silver, €4.99 / £4.49 until 4th August, normally €9.99/ £8.99) - This one actually arrived at retail in Germany quite some time ago, and finally makes its way to the rest of the continent at a tempting price point on the eShop. A fondly regarded point-and-click puzzle adventure that's previously been on multiple past-gen Nintendo systems, we'll find some warm clothes and take this on for a review. 3Souls - Episode 1: Nelesa (Red Column, €3.60 / £3.20) - An intriguing episodic release that aims to put the GamePad to work, utilising the second screen to show a character's emotions along with some other uses. This title also includes co-op, and we'll see how well it delivers on its ambition in a review. Letter Quest Remastered (Digerati, €7.99 / £7.19 until 11th August, normally €9.99 / £8.99) - A word-based game which employs turn-based RPG elements, this certainly has the potential to deliver some thrills for wordy gamers. We'll dig out a Thesaurus and let you know what we think. Dragon Skills (Joindots, €7.99 / £6.79) - A title that takes its inspiration from the classic Brick Breaker formula, in this case you paddle a ball back and forth that has an ever-growing tail, with bonuses piling up the longer you survive. We'll break out our rose-tinted specs and bring you a review. Wii U Virtual Console R-Type (Konami, €7.99 / £7.19) - The first of a triple arrival of TurboGrafx-16 titles on the Wii U Virtual Console, having previously been part of the extensive VC on Wii. This is a very decent port of the classic arcade shoot 'em up, which is regarded both as one of the greats of its genre and as an extremely challenging title. You can check out our Wii Virtual Console R-Type review while we work on a fresh perspective on Wii U. New Adventure Island (Konami, €5.99 / £5.39) - Another TurboGrafx-16 title, and another good 'un. It can be argued that this is one of the best titles featuring Master Higgins; it has bright visuals and smooth controls, along with a clever mechanic in which your health depletes with the passing of time, making every move count. We praised this a great deal in our Wii Virtual Console New Adventure Island review. Bonk's Adventure (Konami, €5.99 / £5.39) - A third TurboGrafx-16 release, originally brought to the Wii VC by the now defunct Hudson. A rather colourful and conventional platformer in which you headbutt enemies, it also has some humour for extra flavour. We gave it a modest recommendation in our Bonk's Adventure review. Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures (ScrewAttack Games, €4.99 / £4.49 until 11th August, normally €9.99 / £8.99) Beatbuddy (Threaks, €3.99 / £3.99 until 8th August, normally €8.99 / £8.09) Rock 'n Racing Off Road (EnjoyUp Games, €2.99 / £2.69 until 25th August, normally €5.99 / £5.39) 99Seconds (EnjoyUp Games, €1.49 / £1.34 until 25th August, normally €2.49 / £2.29) Darts Up (EnjoyUp Games, €1.49 / £1.34 until 25th August, normally €2.49 / £2.29) Island Flight Simulator (Joindots, €7.19 / £5.39until 11th August, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Sweetest Thing (Joindots, €4.89 / £3.84 until 11th August, normally €6.99 / £5.49) 3DS eShop Power Disc Slam (Chequered Cow Games, €11.99 / £9.99) - This 3DS title is, in spirit at least, a modern take on Neo Geo title Windjammers, albeit with modern features such as online multiplayer and 60fps stereoscopic 3D. It promises quite a lot of content, so we'll throw ourselves into it for a review. Psycho Pigs (Bergsala Lightweight, €7.99 / £7.19) - A quirky arena brawler that cites a 1987 Jaleco game as its inspiration, you battle it out as pigs while trying to use the environment as an asset. We'll see whether it's tasty like bacon of hammed up nonsense in our review. New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console If you buy two of the following on the New 3DS before 11th August, you get the third free: Street Fighter Alpha 2 (Capcom, €7.99 / £7.19) - Although the original never arrived on Nintendo hardware, this sequel brought a taste of the arcade action to the Super NES. A spin-off from the core franchise, it utilises custom combos along with some fresh characters and a different art style; we were big fans of this in our Street Fighter Alpha 2 review. Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting (Capcom, €7.99 / £7.19) - This entry is more the typical Street Fighter action that's associated with the 16-bit era; in this one's case it has less flat-out content than its successor below, but does play faster courtesy of the Turbo options. We weighed it all up in our review for the Wii U Virtual Console release. Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (Capcom, €7.99 / £7.19) - This entry lacks the speed of Turbo Hyper Fighting, but boasts more characters and modes to choose from; on some metrics its better, but those that crave speed will disagree. In any case we gave it a strong recommendation in our review. 3DS DLC Fire Emblem Fates - IV: Light's Sacrifice (Nintendo, €1.99 / £1.79 or part of map pack 2) - Part IV of Heirs of Fate. Fire Emblem Fates: V: Endless Dawn (Nintendo, €1.99 / £1.79 or part of map pack 2) - Part V of Heirs of Fate. Fire Emblem Fates: End: Lost in the Waves (Nintendo, €1.99 / £1.79 or part of map pack 2) - Heirs of Fate finale. 3DS Demo Crazy Construction (Joindots, free) 3DS eShop Temporary Discounts Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures (ScrewAttack Games, €4.99 / £4.49 until 11th August, normally €9.99 / £8.99) Epic Word Search Collection (Lightwood Games, €5.99 / £4.49 until 4th August, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Snow Moto Racing 3D (Zordix AB, €3.99 / £3.59 until 4th August, normally €7.99 / £7.19) Escape from Zombie City (Tom Create, €2.10 / £1.90 until 25th August, normally €2.99 / £2.69) Ninja Battle Heroes (Tom Create, €1.39 / £1.25 until 25th August, normally €1.99 / £1.79) Runny Egg (Tom Create, €1.40 / £1.25 until 25th August, normally €1.99 / £1.79) Smash Cat Heroes (Tom Create, €1.75 / £1.39 until 25th August, normally €2.49 / £1.99) Football Up Online (EnjoyUp Games, €1.99 / £1.79 until 25th August, normally €3.99 / £3.59) 3D Game Collection (Joindots, €4.99 / £3.59 until 11th August, normally €6.99 / £4.99) Secret Agent Files: Miami (Joindots, €4.99 / £3.75until 11th August, normally €7.99 / £5.99) Crazy Construction (Joindots, €3.49 / £2.49 until 11th August, normally €6.99 / £4.99) Atlantic Quest (Joindots, €3.49 / £2.49 until 11th August, normally €6.99 / £4.99) 4 Elements (MSL, €1.00 / £1.00 until 25th August, normally €11.99 / £10.79) Azada (MSL, €1.00 / £1.00 until 25th August, normally €11.99 / £10.79) Hidden Expedition Titanic (MSL, €1.00 / £1.00 until 25th August, normally €11.99 / £10.79) Jewel Quest 4 Heritage (MSL, €1.00 / £1.00 until 25th August, normally €11.99 / £10.79) Jewel Quest Mysteries 3 - The Seventh Gate (MSL, €1.00 / £1.00 until 25th August, normally €11.99 / £10.79) Jewel Quest: The Sapphire Dragon (MSL, €1.00 / £1.00 until 25th August, normally €11.99 / £10.79) Luxor (MSL, €1.00 / £1.00 until 25th August, normally €11.99 / £10.79) Mystery Case Files: Dire Grove (MSL, €1.00 / £1.00 until 25th August, normally €11.99 / £10.79) Mystery Case Files: Ravenhearst (MSL, €1.00 / £1.00 until 25th August, normally €11.99 / £10.79) Mystery Case Files: Return to Ravenhearst (MSL, €1.00 / £1.00 until 25th August, normally €11.99 / £10.79) Secret Mysteries in London (MSL, €1.00 / £1.00 until 25th August, normally €11.99 / £10.79)
  23. Paulando

    Pocket Card Jockey (3DS)

Anyone else downloaded the demo for this? I love games that combine a card game with another genre; Sword & Poker on iOS is a particular favourite of mine and I've been on the lookout for something similar ever since. The demo is lovely, with fun dialogue and several interesting game mechanics, and it's not quite as simple as 'play solitaire, your horse runs'. It's out on 5th May apparently, about £6.
  24. This week, from Nintendolife, just a Kirby Demo (which is pointless as everyone should have bought the game already): Wii U eShop Buddy & Me: Dream Edition (Sunbreak Games, €4.39 / £3.89) - This is a hugely colourful and charming endless runner that was previously released on smart devices; naturally the Wii U edition has some enhancements to suit the home console. It looks like a lovely game, though we'll see whether it's dreamy or nightmarish in a review. Defend Your Crypt (Ratalaika Games, €2.99 / £2.69) - With retro-style visuals and a full stage view, this is a twist on real-time strategy and defence as you set traps to prevent treasure hunters stealing your gold. The concept certainly has potential, so we'll dig into a review and let you know what we think. Jewel Quest (iWin Inc., €4.39/ £3.49) - As the title suggests this is a HD version of the popular jewel matching game, in this case with the promise of 72 boards to take on; though lacking bells and whistles it achieves its goals, earning a recommendation in our Jewel Quest review. Toon Tanks (Petite Games, €1.99 / £1.79) - A top-down action game that seems like a revamp of late '70s classic Combat, it's a simplistic experience with little variety or incentive to keep playing - we explain why in our Toon Tanks review. Hot Rod Racer (ZeNfA Productions, €2.99 / £2.69) - The second title from ZeNfA, this adopts a top-down view for some pacy racing, with some customisation options also available to boost your vehicle. We'll hit the roads and bring you a review. Wii U Virtual Console A Shadow's Tale (Hudson Soft, €19.99 / £17.99) - An interesting arrival in the Wii download stakes, this stood out as a particularly intriguing 2D platformer during the last generation. It has some clever ideas that are put to good use, albeit with a few flaws affecting the experience; you can learn more in our A Shadow's Tale review.
