  1. Microsoft's Reward scheme. It's alright. In about 15 months I've made just over £240 from it and I've not been doing it religiously. It's not the gravy train it once was, but it's still a simple way to get Xbox credit in return for a good use of your time while sitting on the toilet, a tenner a month or so is easy enough to attain. Interested? Of course you are! Go here https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/rewards sign up using the MS login you use for your Xbox, follow the instructions. Click on everything available for points under https://account.microsoft.com/rewards/ and also do the desktop PC Bing searches to finish off - for those it's easiest to search for a letter under image search, and middle click on 30 different options. You can do it on mobile in a browser desktop mode, for that just put in a search term 30 characters long and delete a letter, search, delete a letter and so on until you've done the searches. Once you're earned 500 points (takes a day or two, there are all sorts of welcome offers to hoover up) you'll be at Level 2 and be able to earn direct from mobile searches as well (again, via Bing - app or set it to default search on your browser), and that's your lot. Daily, you get 3 points per mobile search (up to 60) and 3 points per desktop search (up to 90), along with three "daily sets" of things to click on. They're usually 10 points each, but there will be a couple of occasions per week where it's a quiz on one of them for 30 points or similar. Do those every day, and you can earn extra points for "streaks" where every few days you'll get a bonus for your streak, which is 15 points per day no matter what really: Streak 1, Day 3 (3 days) = 45 pts Streak 2, Day 8 (5 days) = 75 pts Streak 3, Day 13 (5 days) = 75 pts Streak 4, Day 20 (7 days) = 105 pts Streak 5, Day 27 (7 days) = 105 pts Streak 6, Day 35 (7 days) = 105 pts Streak 7, Day 44 (10 days) = 150 pts There's often additional stuff to click on daily and you can also pick up a number of points a day by using the Xbox Rewards app on the Xbox One, but that's tended to be 15 points per day so is a bit crap. You can get a couple of thousand for buying particular games or hardware, but sales generally beat doing that. You also get some points back for any game you buy from the MS store regardless. The occasional email gets sent with links for additional points, usually only 50 and they're only once few weeks at most. All in all, you can get an absolute minimum of 180 points per day just from a couple of minutes searching and clicking, with some extras on top. To what end? Rewards! Live Gold subs, Game Pass subs, Xbox Credit, Microsoft Credit, and things from other vendors that are really poor value. You can easily fund a month of Game Pass every month (6800 points, 17000 for 3 months), I usually save points for credit, of which Xbox and MS Credit are identical so pick whatever makes sense (currently they're 5850 or 4410 points for a fiver, respectively - the latter is on a 30% off deal 'til the 15th of October). As of the other month, any credit gets deposited directly into the redeeming account and you've got 3 months to spend it so you can build up 30 quid in your account if you like but then you have to spend some, but it gives plenty of time to hang on and see what comes up in the various sales. Gold and Game Pass are still supplied as codes to use anywhere. Anyway, the sums above only add up to a fiver of credit a month at best though, but you can near double it up. You're allowed 5 accounts per household, and if you set up a pair of accounts as a family you can transfer 5000 points per month between them. The only thing I'd recommend is using a separate phone number to verify each if you're asked, and don't ever set up a kids account as it's a right pain in the arse with the age restrictions. If you have two pairs of accounts, you can use the other pair to gift games to yourself if you go for credit (a code for the game gets emailed). If you want to rapidly gain points it's a bit finicky but you can use a VPN and pretend you're in the US, where they generate points almost twice as fast as we can. Switch back to UK, deposit points to the paired account, switch back. Might get your account banned doing that, but it'll only be the rewards part of it so there's little to lose. Here are my accounts, this is after exactly the first two weeks in September which is when the Streaks were added to the UK side of it. I use the second account to feed 5000 points to the first every month, and I'll probably use some of the slack to buy Gamepass subs. Not sure why the second account has earned so few by this point in comparison. Same sort of thing here with another couple of accounts, but the second account is gaining points from the US side of it and you can see the difference - almost a couple of thousand points more in 14 days. Lost that streak the day after, bloody timezones did for me. Again, second account feeds 5k points per month to the first but getting it to work was a bit of a pain given the functionality wasn't available on the US side so lots of region switching in the MS account was needed as well. Think it just works now, they got the transfer functionality added the other week. There you go then, that's it.   4. Probably not a good sign there's no thread Tried this at lunch time - atmospheric and pretty. The city is fun-ish to run around eating humans without being seen, but in the end seemed to end up with in 1v1 shoot outs where you jumped about wildly spraying bullets like another well known Battle Royale. The powers didn't seem to come into it. Early days but not sure it'll breakout.

  9. Thought this maybe warranted its own thread since discussion on it is currently split between the Gamepass, Switch and eShop threads. I love the art style, animation and premise, but kind of switched off when they showed the management side of things, which I always believed wasn’t my thing, but then I remembered how much I grew to love the various management sub games in the Yakuza series, and how much I’ve been enjoying the base management in between missions in MGS: Peace Walker which I’m currently playing. I feel like I’ve been living a lie telling myself I don’t like management sims, or maybe it’s something I’ve grown into, but whatever. Spiritfarer also looks to have a little bit of platforming and exploration, so it could actually be a really sweet blend of stuff. I thought this was a lovely review on Gamexplain: Anyone going in on it? Curious to see how good or otherwise the co-op component is (player 2 can go the cat!)
  10. No, I'd never heard of it either, or even the series, until I saw it on the PSN store. It's a long-running RPG series made in Taiwan by DOMO Studio, set in a fantastical version of ancient China, and AFAIK this is the first game to get a western release. And it's bloody good! I've just finished it after around 16 hours and it's one of the better ARPGs I've played in a while, very much focussing on the story and characters but still pretty decent to play, with a snappy combat system. Think of Greedfall and you've got some idea of how it feels to play, but it's more linear and with a much more interesting story and characters you actually end up caring about. Even the comedy mascot (a talking parrot king) becomes deeply endearing by the end. It also just feels a bit different from the usual western/Japanese developed products, so if you're looking for something good and slightly unusual, give it a try.
  11. From nowhere the latest classic to get the old school revival project rework is Sega's 1986 Master System game Alex Kidd in Miracle World. A video was revealed in today's IGN Summer Expo debut stream and it's being published by Merge games who handled the euro release of Streets of Rage 4. I'll update as more info is released.
  12. Missed Ubi's conference yesterday, but caught up with this today. It looks like it has a lot of potential, but then again, Ubisoft. I don't think I've played a decent snowboarding game since Amped on the OG Xbox. (I don't even know if there have been any apart from Amped 2). Side note: Is it just me or is that logo utterly awful? So the most blatant Symphony of the Night rip-off is finally coming to consoles Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth is a 2020 action role-playing video game originally developed by Team Ladybug (the devs behind the not too shabby Touhou Luna Nights btw) and co-published by Playism and Why so serious? (WSS Playground) for Microsoft Windows. It is based on Ryo Mizuno's Record of Lodoss War series, taking place before the events of Diadem of the Covenant. Controlling the High Elf Deedlit, who finds herself in a strange interconnected labyrinth filled with her past foes and companions, the game focuses on exploration and searching for items and power-ups (very much) in vein of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, fighting bosses and minibosses. During gameplay, the player also locates elemental spirits and swap between each one. The idea for Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth came up when Playism was approached by an editor of the eponymous novels and review the source material. Under supervision of Mizuno, Playism decided to go with the project after seeing that both the material and artwork of Team Ladybug went together. The game is not only inspired by Symphony of the Night but also partly by Ikaruga; while both levels and gameplay were designed to reflect its story concept around exploration. Debut trailer: Console release trailer: The title was first launched via Steam Early Access in March 2020 prior to the full version and received several updates through 2020 and 2021. Versions for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and Series S are slated for a December 2021 launch.

Cause no-one seems to bother to make a proper thread and/or update the ones in existence, and since the original Xbox Psychonauts is one of my all-time favourite games, I'm making a thread myself. Psychonauts 2 is the long awaited sequel to the cult classic Psychonauts, which was an awesome 3D action-platformer that saw players litterally dive into the minds of different people, leading to a colourful and insane world in which the imagination of the creators seemed to be the only limitation. The first game came out in 2005, so it's been over 15 years since this incredibly unique psychological platformer hit consoles. Thankfully, Psychonauts 2 - after all its development/publisher niggles - now really seems to be happening, and Double Fine, the creators behind the series and many other unique titles, is aiming to make it bigger and better than the original in every way. Psychonauts 2 was first officially announced back in 2015, and since then it's been a very long and very bumpy road to release, with numerous setbacks and compromises Double Fine had to make for the project. After a successful crowdfunding campaign and an acquisition from a larger company, Double Fine is all set to make Psychonauts 2 a reality sometime in 2021. There were times when it wasn't sure the project was even going to survive, but Psychonauts 2 is now pretty much inevitable at this point. The story of the sequel picks up a few years after the end of the first game, when Razputin Aquato, trained acrobat and powerful young psychic, has realized his life long dream of joining the international psychic espionage organization known as the Psychonauts. But now these psychic super spies are in trouble. Their leader hasn't been the same since he was kidnapped, and what's worse, there's a mole hiding in the Psychonauts' headquarters. Raz must use all his powers to stop the mole before they execute their secret plan — to bring the murderous psychic villain, Maligula, back from the dead!   18. Anybody else using remote play? I've used the MOGA adapters with my phone (pixel 5) and it has worked amazingly well*, playing Forza and Outer Wilds in bed is fantastic, and whilst the screen isn't as big it hasn't mattered yet. I've had some sound issues, but I think that's because I've plugged the headphones into the controller whilst I'm waiting for wireless headphones to arrive. I've also tried it on my laptop, but no dice. Apparenty that's One X/S only, so I'm hoping a fix for that comes along soon. I've also tried it on my ipad, but it has difficulties connecting to the controller. Not sure if anybody else has tried it. *Not Tetris Effect though, that's the only game I've found so far that can't be remotely played.

  20. The pretty average PS2 third-person action game series Gungrave is getting another sequel ! Not much is known about it, except that it seems to be continuing in the 3rd-person over-the-top action genre, and that industry darling and ex-platinum/ ex-tango developer Ikumi Nakamura (Bayonetta, The Evil Within, Ghostwire Tokyo) is now involved, but in what capacity isn't exactly clear.   21. Konami’s classic run-and-gun franchise Contra seems to be back. And no, it's not a pachinko machine. On Tuesday, Konami revealed Contra Rogue Corps, a new over-the-top entry in the series. Two years after the Alien Wars had ended, a mysterious area called the Damned City arose from the grounds where the final battles took place. Ruthless Fiends roamed the area, bringing a world full of madness. In the midst of chaos, 5 scoundrels emerge...they are the Rogue Corps. They do not look anything like heroes of justice, but have they come to save humanity, or maybe they are looking to hit the jackpot by searching the Damned City for treasures...either way, the fate of the world is in their hands. Contra Rogue Corps trades the traditional side-scrolling perspective for a top-down isometric view of the action, like previously done in Super C and Contra 3: The Alien Wars. Players will shoot up Damned City, both as classic Contra characters like Kaiser, a mutated bug and ... a panda bear?   22. Combat focused Limbolike. You're a hairy viking with an axe and a bow crossing a surprisingly well made (single person development) world of Viking myth and Legend. Throwing an axe into an enemy's face or pulling that last second arrow to the head is immensely satisfying. Played for an hour so far and the controls are well implemented offering a variety of ways to deal with each situation you encounter. It's far more about taking on enemies and looking good doing it than the environmental puzzles of Limbo/Inside.
