  1. Yet another game becoming a Netflix show. Maybe "the Netflix of games" is just Netflix making TV shows of games. Supposed to be set in the past and telling the origin stories of several characters from Piltover and Zaun.
  2. Personally enjoyed it. The bin burp and the severed arm wrestling were a bit shit, but otherwise it worked well as an introduction to the characters. Some people have criticized the somewhat hectic pace of the story but I personally feel that the whole intent was to introduce Rose and the Doctor and having her get caught up in the action right from the beginning allowed this to happen with plenty of pace. I don't think that a detailed story PLUS the introduction of the characters would've worked if they'd tried to squeeze it all into the first 45 minute episode. My 10 yr old son sat glued to the TV the entire 45 minutes, so on that count I think it worked as family entertainment - after all, if the programme only tried to appeal to the (now grown up) people who watched the old series it would probably fail terribly - the producers have to attract a new audience as well as catering for the original fans if it's to succeed. Seems to have trounced Ant 'n' Dec in the ratings though and almost all the word of mouth I've seen has been positive (apart from the balls-up that allowed Graham Norton's voice to intrude - I thought the baddies were Autons, not Nortons...). Have to see how it holds up over the coming weeks. What'd everyone else think?
  3. It's got a date now, so I'll drag it out of the general thread. Coming on 24 November.
  4. Another version of the story, this time starring David Tennant as Phileas Fogg. It's being made by a group of European broadcasters and looks like it will have a multinational cast. It's due to air towards the end of 2020 and will be on BBC in the UK.
  5. An unusual premise this, and based on the first episode it will be well worth a download every week. Michael C Hall (Six Feet Under's David) plays Dexter, who is a serial killer. He's also a CSI-type cop. The dark comedy style is similar to SFU, and whilst it will never hit the heights of that show, it will be an entertaining and interesting 45 minutes every week. It is also on Showtime which means they won't hold back on the gore. If it wasn't for Heroes, this would be my highlight of the brand new shows so far this season. First episode of eleven was on Sunday and is Out There now.
  6. I'm feeling trepidation about how this could turn out. JMS is back with Warner Bros. TV to reboot the show for The CW.
  7. This'll probably go down like a lead balloon. It's already a classic and has an English dub regarded as exemplary. Can they possibly make any improvements? It's coming from a studio that also feels the need to remake Snowpiercer.
  8. Heo Sung-tae and Gong Yoo from Netflix show Squid Game and Bae Doona from Netflix show Sense8 star in 8-part Netflix show The Silent Sea. Coming on 24 December. In the future, Earth is turning to desert. A team are assembled to retrieve a mysterious sample from an abandoned lunar base, which will apparently help save Earth. It's based on a 2014 short, The Sea of Tranquility. Both directed by Choi Hang-yong.
  9. It was mentioned in the movie thread a while ago, but there's some more concrete plans coming together for the TV version now. Clement and Waititi are both involved, with Clement writing and Waititi directing. Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillen have been cast. Just a pilot order for now.
  10. Turns out Amazon are doing a TV version of the Saoirse Ronan movie, Hanna. Which came out more years ago than I thought. David Farr, the movie co-writer, is writing this too. Coming in March. I liked the movie and it's odd style. So, for me, this has a lot to live up to.
  11. https://deadline.com/2018/08/solar-opposites-alien-animated-comedy-rick-and-morty-duo-20th-tv-hulu-series-order-justin-roliand-mike-mcmahan-1202453250/ Hulu have given a 16 episode (across 2 seasons) order for a new adult animation from Rick and Morty's Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan. Due to start in 2020. It's about a family of aliens from a better world who are taking refuge in middle America. They disagree if it is awful or awesome. Roiland is also voicing a couple of the main characters.
  12. Another GoT prequel is close to getting a pilot. This one is set 300 years before the show, about House Targaryen. Based on the Fire and Blood books. https://deadline.com/2019/09/house-targaryen-prequel-game-of-thrones-series-ryan-condal-george-rr-martin-hbo-1202732221/
  13. https://deadline.com/2021/11/randall-park-blockbuster-video-store-comedy-series-netflix-from-superstore-duo-david-caspe-1234876166/ Netflix have ordered a workplace comedy set in the last Blockbuster Video store in America. Starring Randall Park and some Superstore people behind the scenes. Netflix were almost crushed by blockbuster back in the day, when Netflix were a movie rental company, and they even rebuffed an offer to sell Netflix to them. How things could have been different. Brought down by Kit-Kats in the end, innit.
  14. They're giving a live-action Avatar another go, after that movie which doesn't exist. It's being run by the original animated show's creators/showrunners and will be on Netflix, in partnership with Nickelodeon. They specifically mention a culturally-appropriate, non-whitewashed cast and that Netflix are backing them in their vision to go even deeper into the characters, story, action, and world-building. Also this concept art
  15. https://deadline.com/2018/07/the-nevers-joss-whedon-hbo-series-order-1202426230/ HBO have picked up a new Joss Whedon show, ordered straight to series. He'll be writer, director, executive producer and showrunner. It's a Victorian science-fiction show about a group of women "with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world."
  16. Star Trek adult animation. From Rick and Morty head writer Mike McMahan. It'll focus on the support crew on one of Starfleet's least important ships. McMahan is also the guy behind that twitter account which posted fake episode plots for an eighth TNG season.
  17. http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/robert-downey-jr-nic-pizzolatto-hbo-tv-1201836724/ Robert Downey Jr. had been trying to get a Perry Mason movie going at WB for a few years, but now it looks like it'll happen as a series at HBO, with True Detective's Nic Pizzolatto involved.
  18. Another show joining the DC Universe shows. Not sure it'll be connected to Titans or Doom Patrol. This one involves the Justice Society of America. Brec Bassinger is in the title role and her alter-ego Courtney Whitmore. Also Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan, pilot of Stripe, a 15-foot robot he invented. Lou Ferrigno Jr. as Rex Tyler/Hourman, Brian Stapf as Ted Grant/Wildcat, Henry Thomas as Charles McNider/Dr Mid-Nite. Amy Smart also playing Barbara Whitmore, Courtney's mother and Pat Dugan's new wife. Also Joy Osmanski, Neil Hopkins and Nelson Lee as Tigress, Sportsmaster and Dragon King, members of The Injustice Society. The show is being run by Geoff Johns. Won't be coming until early next year. Official synopsis First official pic unveiled at Wondercon yesterday
  19. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tech/news/a552739/lovefilm-instant-to-become-amazon-prime-instant-video.html I used to be with Lovefilm, but left when they stopped renting games. At the time their streaming video service was nice as an added bonus on the subscription, but not something I'd have paid for on its own due to a poor library and apps only available on a very limted number of devices with rubbish update support. Not sure if this will tempt me away from Netflix, their original programming (House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Arrested Development) blow away Amazon's rather uninspiring efforts in that area and without the introductory offer it's actually more expensive than Netflix (only by about £7 but still). The main argument for that price is the Amazon Prime delivery which i wouldn't particularly want. Still, more competition is good for us customers, not sure I'd want to be subscribed to two streaming services, but if they significantly improve their library I might take a look eventually.
  20. Third season of American Crime Story is about Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. Lewinsky herself is involved as a producer. They're getting the cast together. It'll be based on the book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President. Starts shooting in March and is currently aiming for 27 September airing. Clive Owen as Bill Clinton Beanie Feldstein as Monica Lewinsky Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp Annaleigh Ashford as Paula Jones Hillary Clinton hasn't been cast yet
  21. It's HBO, so there's reason for hope, right? It's only early in talks, but Damon Lindelof, fresh off The Leftovers, is currently attached too.
  22. http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/WF/youngjustice/guides/reviews/26auld/20.jpg Seeing as there was never an official thread for this show, the fact it's continuing straight into it's second season this weekend seems like a good opportunity as any to start one. The show started very strongly but suffered from delays getting episodes to air once the first 8 or 9 were completed.. But it's well worth catching up on now the first season is complete.. The writing has been excellent and the animation is superb, looking particularly lovely in HD. 'Invasion' has been appended to the shows title for season2, due to the fact that the majority of this year will be focussed on one plotline. The look of a few of the characters has been revised a little and there are three new additions to the cast (not including the ones added within the last few episodes).. The starting line-up: Aqualad, Robin, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis eventually expands to include Red Arrow, Zatanna and Rocket. Given the events of the finale, that will not necessarily be the case moving forward.. However new cast members for this season will include Wonder Girl, Lagoon Boy and Blue Beetle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0S_OFmw0TI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vlf13ywGq_Q
  23. http://www.indiewire.com/2017/06/john-wick-tv-show-keanu-reeves-prequel-the-continental-hotel-1201841666/ Lionsgate is making a TV show centred on The Continental from John Wick. People did say they would like to see more of The Continental's world, so it's happening. The movie's director and franchise mastermind, Chad Stahelski, is behind the show too. It'll be focused on other clients passing through the worldwide hotel network rather than Wick, but Stahelski reckons Wick will make an appearance, though that's not official.
  24. Batwoman is coming to the "Arrowverse". It's not certain of being its own show yet, but they are casting the character for a crossover event in December with a view to spinning her out to her own show. It's being developed by Greg Berlanti, of all the other shows, and Caroline Dries, of The Vampire Diaries.
  25. Yeah, they're going there... There was never meant to be a sequel to the 1981 movie History of the World, Part I, but Mel Brooks and Hulu are taking it up now, as an 8-part series. Brooks will be writing and producing, along with Wanda Sykes, Ike Barinholtz, Nick Kroll, David Stassen and Kevin Salter. Coming in Spring.
