The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

145 hours played, 115 shrines completed, 4 divine beasts freed, master sword in hand, I am now ready to tackle Central Hyrule: I'm disappointed that I've only found just over 300 Korok seeds, I was hoping to at least find half before Ganon to max my item slots. I'll search Central Hyrule then take a trip to the lost woods to see how close I can get.

3 divine beasts in and I've discovered I have missed out on almost all the voice acting in cut scenes. Zelda would always have a voice when speaking to me from the castle and the champions would have a voice when I was inside a divine beast but all cut scenes were silent. The first thing that made me think that something could be wrong was a cut scene in the lost woods where the Deku tree was talking to Zelda, the tree was voice acted but Zelda just had subtitles. I thought that was a really weird decision. Later I did the Zora divine beast and the subtitles in the cut scene were often hard to read with a lot of sunny white scenes which made it look like the text wasn't the focus. I loaded up the same cut scene on youtube and found it was fully voice acted! After a bit of googling it turns out if your Switch or WiiU has its sound set to surround you might not hear voices if you have it connected to a sound system in a certain way (I'm not sure what the condition is that causes it). I set the Switch to stereo and loaded up a memory on Zelda to find they are all voice acted beautifully! Ffs

I missed the hype train but I can't see how anyone could be disappointed with this game!

Now you've put it in the centre of the screen I do see it, however think it needed to be a bit more bird shaped for my idiot brain to see it without it being pointed out. The annoying thing is I was actually looking out for bird shaped areas! My excuse is that it was snowing at the time . Do you ever get to the end of a shrine and think "I wasn't supposed to do it like that". Yesterday I found a shrine that had blowers pointing along walls around the room, 2 metal crates and a ball to get to a goal which raised a platform I needed to be standing on to get to the end.

I also did that tempting island off the coast far too early! But by persevering with that it made me able to easily beat them now I've got some guardian weapons. I think I found 3 major tests of strength in the northwest map. I didn't get hit once!

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. I had to look up a solution to a shrine online. It was the one in the lost woods with the constellations. I don't think I would ever notice the solution by myself, did anyone else have trouble with that one? There was a shrine quest up in the north west that made no sense to me that I accidentally completed, "The bird in the mountains". I climbed up the tree and looked to the northwest as it says. I saw a bird flying past so killed it and got nothing other than meat. The quest said there was a huge bird and that the old man looked down to see it. Maybe it is a bit of land that looks like a bird? I looked and couldn't see anything that looked remotely bird shaped. Later I was exploring the area to the northwest and the shrine detector was going off, it took over half an hour to find it, I was going around in circles. I get there and the bird in the mountains completes? I check the quest and it says something like: Moan over, this is still the best game I've played in over a decade!

Today I checked how many hours I've put into this game I got nearly a month ago. Over 85 hours! I was expecting it to be high, like 40 hours or so, but I wasn't expecting that! I find it funny seeing the comments about doing the divine beast at Zora's domain first as I haven't even been to Zora's domain yet. Here's a screenshot of my map, spoilered because of shrine locations. I've just got the map for the north west section and I'm exploring that before I move east. I'm planning on doing central Hyrule last so I'm circling around it. I've definitely got better at fighting, now when I get to a shrine that says "A major test of strength" I'm glad because it means I get some easy ++ guardian weapons/shield. I still haven't beaten a Lynel though. Fuck them. It's been a long time since I last saw Hestu, I'm desperate for more weapon capacity. I feel like I'm being thorough with my exploration but I've only found 170ish Korok seeds. If there's 900 of the buggers I should have at least 400 by now, I've missed loads! 85 hours and I've explored just over half the map... What a game.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I've been playing for a week and I'm totally hooked. I decided to play it with no teleporting as I did a run of fallout 3 with no fast travel and I discovered far more interesting things than my initial playthrough. I'm addicted to climbing mountains whenever I see them. Last night after I got to Hateno Village and got my selfie cam I noticed a big arsed mountain range in view. I had to climb it. It was colder than the mountain in the plateau and I had to eat my spicy food I had made earlier in the week as well as wearing the warm clothes I got from the king. I had enough spicy food to last about 15 minutes in the mountains which I figured would be plenty (it wasn't). As the tallest peak was getting closer I noticed something purple on it, I had no idea what it was. I managed to get to the top by running away from the icy bastard enemies and when I discovered what the purple thing was I figured I wouldn't be able to do anything about it with my 4 hearts and average weapons, (and 8 minutes of warmth left), so I just shot 1 arrow at it to see if it would do anything. It moved up to the top of the mountain! The arrow actually did something! The chase was on. Another arrow, another hit, then it flies away from the mountain. I follow with the paraglider, then when above it, I wonder if I can shoot arrows mid air? I press the bow button then it all goes into bullet time! Bloody marvellous! After a few more minutes it was done, then I went back to where it all started to collect my loot. I had 3 minutes of warmth left and there were a few lower peaks to explore. I figured I could do it. I paraglided over to them and the shrine alarm starts going off. I circled around for a couple of minutes but I couldn't find it. I was taking cold damage now so I couldn't hang about to find it. I had to get down. I notice a shrine miles away to the south, it looked like it was on Hateno beach. I jumped off the mountain, opened my paraglider and began my descent. I was taking too much cold damage so I was getting through my cooked apple stock fast. Eventually I dip to a point where I stop taking damage, but I'm still miles away (vertically and horizontally) from the shrine. I can see now it is in the middle of the sea, there was no way I could swim that far so I had to start using my stamina meals to keep myself airborne. I eventually land at the shrine, after the ordeal of the mountains I was ready for a nice bit of simple puzzle solving to relax. I was very low on food so I was keen to get the shrine finished so I could head back to the villages to cook up some more. "A test of strength" it said when I got in... On my travels I had acquired a few weapons that I considered half decent. There was a flameblade, a few eightfold blades, an eightfold longblade, a stack of arrows, flame arrows, ice arrows, and bomb arrows. Over the next hour of playing which involved many, many deaths, the shrine was beat and all I was left with was a few ice arrows and a heavily damaged eightfold longblade. But oh man, did I get some awesome weapons from it! I can see me saving those bad boys for Ganon. It's getting late so I intend to get to the mainland then save and quit. But wait, what's that in the distance? An island? I'll have a quick look as there's a boat here with a leaf to blow it along. After getting my arse kicked off the island for the 5th time I decide to give up for the night to try again in the morning. What started as a quick look up a mountain turned into a 2-3 hour session. What a game. TL;DR: It's a good game.

    Nintendo Switch

I can't understand the negativity, when I turned on the Switch yesterday and it told me about the sub coming in September I thought it looked like a fair price. I forget what I used to pay for the hunters license to play PSO on the cube, £8.99 per month? Xbox gold at about £30 per year. £20 per year is fine.

    Nintendo Switch

I unexpectedly got a Switch for my birthday yesterday, up until then I've still been playing the Wii and Xbox 360, the last generation passed me by. I put a good few hours into Zelda, what a bloody lovely game. The last Zelda I played was Twilight Princess and I got bored and stopped playing shortly after being turned into a wolf. This new Zelda is something else, I'm finding it hard to turn it off. It's reminding me of Fallout 3 which was one of my favourite games on the 360. I love being able to wander about and do my own thing. I am having hardware issues though, the right hand joycon keeps losing sync. I sit about 5 metres away, is that too far? The left hand one is fine. I'm wondering if my phone or watch is interfering with it. The buttons are awkward, fast swapping weapons is a bit of a stretch down from the analogue stick, is the pro controller any better? It bloody wants to be at £60. I can't imagine playing smash on those tiny joycons, I can see myself buying a pro at some point.

    Fear the Walking Dead Thread

I gave up on this mid way through season 2 but I watched the season 4 opener as I heard it had Morgan in it. Now I wan't to know what happened to the ftwd characters which is weird as I couldn't be arsed with them before. I still can't be arsed to carry on with season 2 though, was season 3 any good?
