  1. Spotted an Alice Madness returns for the ps3 in a charity shop today. They had it for £15, so they knew it was worth something. I almost walked away but at the last second I saw it was sealed! Sold!

    God of War (2018) - Magni-ficent!

I just pushed on with the main story, I did all the side quests in the first half but then just wanted to finish it. Did a few Valkyries and they were difficult (it’s a shame they couldn’t have been incorporated into the story somehow, I’d have preferred to have fought them rather than another troll). What got me was how difficult the beginning was. The section up to the woods had some really hard encounters and I really enjoyed it. You would go down in three hits, but after this things just stopped scaling and it became I could take 10 hits before going down.

    God of War (2018) - Magni-ficent!

Finally finished this and whilst I enjoyed it enough to see it through to the end I felt the underlying gameplay was very average. The enemies became repetitive and the difficulty seemed to inverse with it being very challenging at the beginning (on give me a challenge mode) but very easy at the end. I also felt the the game world was small and it didn’t really feel like an epic journey with all the back tracking. The world also didn’t feel lived in, there were no houses or towns and I think this made it feel smaller than it was, despite the exploration the main path did feel like one long pretty corridor. The combat was okay but seemed to offer far too many options, in the end I just stuck with basic combos and the runics, for more challenging foes this is all you could seemingly fit in the parry window. I could go on but will leave it there. I guess you just get cognitive dissonance when every other person is raving about it being game of the generation but I just don’t see it. presentation: 10 story: 7 gameplay: 5

Someone should make a Battle Royale game

I'm surprised it took this long!
  5. Just saw this for £18 delivered - the Retrospex 32, if the specs are to be believed then it seems like a good price. Does anyone have experience with one? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nintendo-Gameboy-Advance-clone-Retrospex-32-Handheld-Video-Games-Console/182560215550?epid=1568743020&hash=item2a816fd1fe:g:148AAOSwZVlXr3Bh

Game Boy & GB Advance Appreciation Thread

I had a go at performing the backlight mod on my GBA and was really pleased with the results. It cost me about £40 in total for the GBA and backlight and it was not too difficult given the tutorials available. Do read up though on what screens you need (there are two types and most don't specify) as I got the wrong one and had to perform an additional solder in order to fix a very washed out screen.

    Xenogears

This was always one of my favourites. I thought disc 2 focused up and took it to end game. I never noticed the quality dropping. Amazing soundtrack

Game Boy & GB Advance Appreciation Thread

I have just got back into the GBA and have gone a bit wild. I have also realised it might be a better console than the SNES! The list of must haves is insane but I hope to rebuild my previous collection. So far I have picked up: Green micro with boxed advance wars, fzero, and FFVI and unboxed Castlevania harmony, Castlevania Double pack and some trash carts like Spider-Man 2. Got this for £100 but FF and the Castlevanias were fake but the guy was honest and and I got a discount to £70. I picked up Metroid Zero Mission (£22) in CeX along with mario golf (£5) MG didn’t work but Metroid was genuine. also found Astro boy for £6 and a boxed Metroid fusion along with a few other bits and pieces including an original GBA and Mario 1 for £45. One thing I have noticed is CeX have some great prices online and also how to spot a fake cart. Tips for spotting fakes: genuine carts have stamped in numbers on the label which correspond to which factory they were made in. It can be hard to see these face on but can be seen when tilted under light. Fake carts often have a more eggagerated emboss of the gba logo that is more shiny the arch at the top often goes past the edge of the label box on fakes. Already halfway way through zero mission and absolutely loving it!

I think it would be great to get eSports some more exposure over here and whilst I'm not a fan of their current, largely FPS, lineup, I think at least being neutral rather than bashing its very soul could pave the way for more. If it fails then it could be a while before the next opportunity arises. If they introduce MOBAs and card games then I'll get on board.
  11. That's a massive cop out but it could let them did the second half of the book series which I agree was not good. The only two books that we decent were 2 and 3. Book 4 was great but it wasn't really part of the story.

    Photography Equipment & Software Thread

I'm thinking about getting a high end compact camera to go travelling with but I'm having a hard time comparing them. I played about with the Sony Rx100 Mk i - v, Lumia TZ100, Lumia LX100 and the Canon G5X in John Lewis today. I wanted to try the Canon G7X but they didn't have it in. My initial thoughts were with the G5X which I liked the best but I'm not an expert at photography. If anyone has advice on the cameras above or similar cameras I haven't mentioned then I would really appreciate your input.

Monika's new office had me laughing the most. I absolutely love the series. Check out some of the merch available, the are some quite subtle t-shirts
  14. I went in expecting this to be rubbish based on the feedback here but I really enjoyed it, it's really not that bad. I thought it was going 1 or 2 out of 10 but it gets a 7/10 from me. The end was bizarre and the whole film took a different turn from what I was expecting from the trailer. The thing that impressed me most was the creativity in the personification of the food, there were a lot of good ideas that haven't been done before.

    Bad Mothers

Saw this and enjoyed it, it had an American Pie style of humour to it. Pure popcorn fodder but the script and pacing was fine which is more than can be said for most stuff released this Summer
