What’s the worst film you have ever seen?

I'm not sure whether it was the worst film I've ever seen. But it was the worst cinema experience in terms of expectations- Matrix - revolutions (or whatever the second one was called) I came out of that so bitter and resentful.

    Gotham

Am I the only person still watching? It knows it's wrapping up and it's more ridiculous than ever. But is cramming every nod back to various characters it can in. As stupid as it is, it's strangely consistent with it's own rules around with regards to when everyone is pointing guns at each other, all the goons will die and anyone you know the name of will live.

The most beautiful song you ever heard

Pretty cruel just to allow one in a playlist that includes Mr Brightside (and I like Mr Brightside). Second choice spoilered so it's up to you if you take it.

    Weezer. Does anyone like them?

My main takeaway is that I'm really confused by Finn Wolfhard's height. I'm guessing they make him look shorter in Stranger Things. The album is.... whatever.

Best one hit wonder of all time

Two mid nineties hits that for most people are probably one hit wonders but did have some other decent songs out of the bands.

    Daredevil - TV Series

Just finished this and overall it was great, but I felt the first 3 or 4 episodes were a bit slow to get going and the Karen episode was annoying. It could have been condensed to 10 episodes and been better. The Karen episode might not have been so annoying if it didn't feel like it was randomly plonked anywhere in the series. The previous episode finished with Matt at Fisks finding out Dex is on his way to kill Karen, pretty much a cliff hanger ending. Then it drops you back in with this cut away flashback story for me it broke the tension and felt like it could have sat anywhere in the series so sticking it here felt cheap. Heck maybe it could have worked if it flashed back more purposefully while she was hiding from Dex in the church mid-fight (maybe not).

    Doctor Who

I thought the dalek was going to be responsible for the drone sightings at Gatwick with all it's zipping about, bit disappointing it wasn't.

    Die Hard

If Eddie Argos says it, then I'm inclined to agree. I also think of Empire of the Sun as a Christmas film, which I think comes from having seen it a couple of years at Christmas time. (looking at wiki it was released on Christmas day)

    Favourite trailers

Reminds of a bunch of Tekken end game scenes but with more climactic music.

    Crazy Rich Asians

Yeah I enjoyed it as a rom com. Am sort of wondering whether I was meant to take more away from that opening/relate it to the Mum's snobbishness? It seemed quite long and didn't really introduce much I didn't know in a film titled 'Crazy Rich Asians', and maybe it would have been better to introduce the wealth later as Rachel is introduced to it.

    Tennis

The quote was :- 'I’ve seen other men call other umpires several things. I’m here fighting for women’s rights and for women’s equality and for all kinds of stuff.' All kinds of stuff...... To have the outburst on court I could sort of go fine, people who compete at top level sport are competitive and sometimes being that competitive has a flip side that you sometimes don't quite control. To try and turn it, into some bigger moral crusade agenda is disgusting. She was out there fighting for herself in a 1-1 tennis match with another woman and she wanted to win and got carried away there is less shame in that. If she wanted a moral crusade she could have raised this issue after the match in a way that was respectful to all involved, she certainly has the power/status to be able to do so. Using your power/reputation to threaten someone's career, and thinking that is in any way acceptable, that is entitlement pure and simple. Most sports have issues with inconsistency of officiating, football it is constantly a problem, this was nothing more. The one thing this has made me think is that fines dished out for behaviour during tournaments should be scaled against the winnings the player (male or female) makes from that tournament.
  13. Finally watched season 3. Loved it not surprisingly. I did sort of want someone to say 'I thought you'd be taller' to Holden when meeting him at some point.
  14. Having watched a few, I'll probably watch this as a background show while I play on my ipad, so I can hear Matt Berry every once in a while.

    Your unearthed gems

Hard to know what constitutes unearthed, but for me more often than not films I've found browsing airplane selections and then enjoyed at a later date again having never heard of them before then. 'I Kill Giants' - this is a nice film that I guess is aimed more towards children and teenagers, the story is relatively simplistic and doesn't contain too many surprises but doesn't try to either. The characters are real enough and maybe at some points boarding too close to infuriating. Bound to draw comparisons with some other similar films in the genre but it has a nice look and design to it. The type of film I would love to have watched on a rainy afternoon when I was younger (and now). 'Sky High' - a film that these days seems like for some reason missed it's moment. A high school film based around superhero teenagers, with a decent cast and a good bit of humour. I'm not sure what happened when this was released whether the marketing wasn't right or it's bright family friendly tone didn't fit the dark superhero style people were used to, or the genre mix wasn't quite right with not enough edge for the teens or marvel or DC enough for the superhero audience. The film has a great internal consistency and styling, plays excellently on the high school setting as well as poking fun at some common superhero tropes. Probably the only let down being a slightly dull finale.
