    Games Workshop, An Appreciation Thread

It’s that time of year when GW do their big survey. It’s long but I recommend answering. https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/SH89F3Y

Very nice. Those thorns are quite similar to mine, though mine are all-over ghost-coloured and only the base is "solid". I wish they'd do these in clear plastic, maybe slightly frosted so it'll take a tint from paint...

Amallyn Shadowguide from the Blackstone Fortress set, but painted in Alaitoc Craftworld colours to fit with my army.

I'll add battlefoam to the list of recommendations. It's worth mentioning that if you're able to get to Excel in London on Saturday, there's a huge wargaming show on called Salute - KR and Battlefoam will both have stands and they should have pretty good offers. I picked up a battlefoam "ammo case" with foam at the UK games expo last year and it worked out about half price.

    The Alan Partridge Thread

I watched that a few weeks ago, after the first episode of This Time, and it was the first time I’d seen it since the original broadcast 20 years ago. It’s astonishingly good, bridging IAP series 1 and 2 and the studio format clearly inspiring MMM. It’s also packed with great lines “Martin Landau with his then-wife”, “Kate’s… Bush…” , “It’s a bloody good job, so enjoy”.

Surprised the thread's gone on this long without mentioning the Institute on twitter:

    Black Library, anyone a fan?

There's another Humble Bundle of Heresy books. https://www.humblebundle.com/books/horus-heresy-2019-warhammer-book-bundle?hmb_source=navbar&hmb_medium=product_tile&hmb_campaign=tile_index_6 Some good stuff. All the must-reads of the earlier heresy books (apart from Mechanicum) Lots I already own, but also lots I didn't and some audios as well.

What’s the worst film you have ever seen?

I quite like Broken Arrow. It's silly camp fun. And reunites Slater with his Co-star from Pump Up The Volume, Samantha Mathis. This. Actually paid money to see this. The "shock twist" was one that made me feel like the whole movie had been a waste of time, no-one had been in any real jeopardy, and the whole film was so damn smug with itself that it made me hate everyone involved. One of few films that made me actually angry to have seen it.

Even if the box is limited, I’d be astonished if the models don’t get standalone releases ina few months. For example the “exclusive” speed freeks vehicles are now available standalone.

It was only 2 years after Wogan ended (and the radio series started in the same year Wogan finished) so at the time the show was conceived it was still a reasonably recent, if hackneyed format - it wasn't as wildly anachronistic as it now seems. The theatricality is true but there's the lovely story that Roger Moore told about his father thinking the show was genuine and telling him off for not turning up when he was supposed to. (though - how old would Roger Moore's Father have been in 1994?)

Ah, they published the rule yesterday while we were all looking at abaddon. Just buffs you by 1, regardless of how many models or units are nearby.

    Missed that. Annoying.

    Dirt Rally 2.0

(Full disclosure - I used to work for codies up to 2014 and I got a free copy of the game from a mate who works there) I'm a little underwhelmed, so far. Almost every area of the game feels like a sideways step from DR1 rather than a step up, to me. The car list – some great new cars, but we’ve lost the 2000 and 2010s WRCs in favour of the R-GTs. Licensing is probably to blame here, but it’s still disappointing. The tracks – they’re pretty, but DR1 had proper iconic stages (Sweet Lamb, Col de Turini, Panzerplatte, ouninpojha). DR2 doesn’t. some of those stages are coming back as DLC, which is good, I guess, but at least a couple of them should have been retained. DR1 had Pikes Peak, and its associated cars. DR2 doesn’t. Handling – It’s been 3ish years since I was heavily playing DR1 but it doesn’t seem to have changed *that* much. Co-Driver – Phil mills is a real co-driver, but he’s a terrible voice actor and if I hear him say “that stage was tough but felt fast” after I come last on a stage one more time, I’m going to scream. The “My Team” stuff from dirt 4 – livery editor, sponsors, etc has all gone. It’s good. It’s fun and punishing, sounds excellent, and all the things you expect. Completing a full stage at speed is a test of extreme concentration, skill, and judgement that you rarely find anywhere in gaming. But it’s a sequel where you can’t do many of the best things from the last game, which is always a disappointment.

As far as the keyword stuff, apparently there is a list in the Chaos Marine Codex which specifies which units can be given the "Death Guard" keyword, and which can't. They are: So on that basis, probably fine. I'm fairly sure the abilities don't stack because they're usually written as "within x inches of one or more models with the ability". but that's down to the precise wording on the datasheet and it's possible this one is written differently.
