    Christmas Fixin's 2019

I live in the south west of france, so we always have foie gras to start, get in all that gout-y goodness. I love a baked camembert, a pumpkin soup or smoked salmon/trout otherwise.

This is a fucking delicious spread! I want it all immediately. I like to coat cocktail sausages in honey and mustard. They’re really delicious.

Yes! That's almost exactly how I make them, but normally I put them in hot duck fat. That fat mix sounds very interesting indeed...

    Christmas Fixin's 2019

We do this every year don't we?! Well, we did last year at least, so I thought I'd start one for this year.... What's everyone making for Christmas Dinner? This year, we're going for normal turkey and trimmings etc, but we've jazzed up the gravy a little (fully from scratch, fuck Bisto), using frozen bread sauce from last year to see how that tastes and my dad has a new penchant for smashing his roast potatoes half way through cooking, so we'll be doing that again. We're currently in discussion about what to do with the carrots. I'm also going to attempt a gravadlax for Boxing Day following Nigella's recipe here: https://www.nigella.com/recipes/members/koukoutzakis-gravlax (it's not a community recipe as it says, it's actualy from one of her earlier Christmas TV specials). We didn't get much of a Christmas last year as my dad got Norovirus halfway through the cooking, and then I was struck down half way through the eating. So I am very excited to get my eating pants on and loaf all the way in.

Jay Rayner reviews Le Cinq, Paris

I couldn't find a general restaurant reviewer thread, so though this was the best place to post this. A really interesting (and sad) article talking about the responsibility restaurant reviewers have towards the businesses they review. https://www.thrillist.com/eat/portland/stanichs-closed-will-it-reopen-burger-quest?fbclid=IwAR0cv7kM1Ta0t4CvUoEbMGLOvzjIGXBoMZaN3CEUVzMdD0YXTJMpPLGNZv8

I was howling at that bit, you could see that Shion (whose name is actually Sean!) was trying not to laugh too. So unnecessarily intense, she’s not bloody dead. Yeah, i could not understand what they saw in her, she seemed immature and surly, but her friendship with Tsuba was really sweet. I’d have liked to have seen more of that.

Anyone still watching this? In France we got the second part of the new series ‘Opening New Doors’ last week. I binged it in a day

Black Panther - Chadwick Boseman - Feb 2018

Buzzfeed Buzzshmeed, but there’s a whole lot of people on twitter doing the same thing: https://www.buzzfeed.com/craigsilverman/trolls-are-posting-fake-claims-of-being-assaulted-at?utm_term=.osBMeMnQ22&ref=mobile_share

This is quite possibly one of the worst posts I've seen on here in a long time. Nestled in your attempt at some sort of 'defence' is a display of ignorance so unashamed it's truly quite shocking. Is this really how you view African-American culture and people? This is how little you view their vast and diverse contributions to society and culture? No matter what African-Americans do and achieve, all they boil down to is a couple of LaShawnDa's and Kwanzaa. Delightful

I’m in trouble already because I’ve already drunk 3/4 of the 22€ bottle of ‘Christmas Port’ and kept calling it ribena. I’ve bought a 6€ bottle to make it up to my dad

My neighbour here in cassoulet country made it for me using Julia Child’s recipe, and it was as close to authentic as I’ve ever had homemade to be taste wise, it just doesn’t have any duck in it. http://www.science.smith.edu/dftwiki/index.php/Julia_Child's_Cassoulet_Recipe But then this guy from the NY Times has a recipe that involves a whole duck, which sounds fucking delicious, quite frankly. https://mobile.nytimes.com/2012/02/26/magazine/whole-duck-cassoulet.html?referer= Good luck, it takes bloody ages.
